Between Art & Technology (BAT) Studio is seeking a Part 3 architect to join its team in London.

Between Art and Technology Studio are looking for a talented Part 3 architect to join its team on a part-time basis in Walthamstow, London. Candidates will have a minimum of two to three years’ post–qualification experience in the UK, and ideally although not essential, will have smaller practice experience, working on family homes and extensions.

The part time role is a minimum of 22.5 hours a week, three days, but we can be very flexible about days and times. So, the role may suit someone juggling other commitments.

BAT Studio is a unique practice that works on varied projects including designing new homes, house extensions, commercial interiors, healthcare spaces and arts projects. We are sometimes designers and sometimes contractors, which means we really understand how to detail and deliver high quality projects. The successful candidate will work across multiple projects in varying stages from concept design through to overseeing construction.

Applicants should have a good working knowledge of industry software and an aptitude to adapt to new CAD software if required and demonstrate strong aesthetic and design skills.

We would like to meet people that enjoy designing and can work as a team as well as on their own, confident meeting clients and great at communicating informed, original and practical ideas.

The successful applicants will have the following skills:

  • strong conceptual, design and communication skills both internally and with clients
  • excellent technical knowledge/RIBA Stages 3-6 experience
  • knowledge of statutory regulations, contracts, procurement and delivery requirements
  • confidence to act as project architect for UK residential jobs, with the support of the directors
  • ability to manage workloads and meet tight deadlines
  • liaise with consultants and local authorities
  • liaise with subcontractors and manufacturers
  • communicate design issues
  • keen interest in sustainability
  • good spoken and written English is essential

The studio is eight strong, including the team that work in our in-house workshop producing bespoke furniture. We are based in the same community as God’s Own Junkyard, Pillars Brewery and Mother’s Ruin, so we enjoy socialising after work. We also like to visit interesting places together and learn about new methods of building/construction with particular interest in regenerative design practices.
