About us

Gbolade Design Studio is an award-winning architecture practice and sustainability consultancy that specialises in residential and mixed-use developments for public and private sector clients in urban and suburban settings, through design and insight-led place-making. We are a small team and any successful candidate will need to demonstrate proactivity.

About the role

We are currently looking to engage an experienced architect to join our small and dynamic team. The ideal candidate will have excellent design skills and construction knowledge with a strong focus on sustainable design (or a willingness to develop expert knowledge in this).

The successful architect will take a leading role in delivering projects with excellence in design and sustainability. Gbolade Design Studio have a strong and varied portfolio: from mixed-use masterplans, to residential developments, place-shaping schemes to sustainability/design code guidance. The architect will therefore need to be a good all-rounder: in both design and delivery stages of architectural design. The candidate will also contribute to project bid work, as well as supporting members of the design team with ongoing schemes and internal design guidance. Alongside traditional architecture, successful candidates will be expected to be involved in practice-life; from exciting opportunities such as curating our own exhibitions to being involved in wider industry events that the practice is committed to.

About how we work

This is a full-time position working Monday to Friday 9am to 5:30pm (Mondays start with a team meeting at 8:30am, online).

We adopt a flexible working approach: currently we work from our office in London (Waterloo) three days a week.

We enjoy collaborating with industry colleagues/practices, and are always open to exploring new markets /opportunities. The successful candidate will be given the opportunity to be involved in the future growth of the business.

Key responsibilities:

  • design concepts and research (RIBA Stage 1-3); taking the lead on concept-driven projects, which will involve sketch/concept designs, preparation of explanatory diagrams
  • development and production of planning application proposals and associated design and access statement documents
  • leading on the design, delivery, coordination, and administration of the ongoing RIBA Stage 4-6 Plan of Work Stages along with
    preparation of low-carbon construction details and on-site contract administration duties
  • leading and contributing to GDS-specific projects

The successful candidates will:

  • be an ARB Registered architect (if successful to interview stage, you will be required to provide evidence of your certification)
  • have demonstrable work experience across all RIBA Stages 0-7 (new-build and retrofit housing; at scale – apartment blocks or multi-dwelling low-rise housing schemes)
  • have over five years UK work experience post Part 3
  • have a minimum of 3 years on-site experience
  • have strong, demonstrable Technical Design Stage experience in their portfolio
  • have led projects from commencement to completion
  • have managed project consultant teams including Structural/MEPH/specialist consultants
  • possess excellent job-running and site experience at all RIBA stages
  • possess excellent/in-depth technical knowledge

Requisite skills and qualities:

  • client-facing ability and consultant team leadership skills
  • confident, articulate and personable individual
  • a professional attitude to time management and delivery
  • experienced use and proficiency in ArchiCAD (+ v26) preferable or BIM Authoring software use (inc Revit, Microstation, Vectorworks)
  • proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite including InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop
  • proficiency in Google Workspace and Microsoft Office
  • able to enthusiastically present ideas as they emerge to clients, collaborators, and non-professionals
  • curious in acquiring new digital & AI skills and implementation of digital applications within the studio
  • a portfolio that demonstrates enthusiasm for furthering your knowledge beyond the workplace
  • enjoy working both in a team environment and independent, taking ownership of the tasks
  • high standard of visual communication and presenting ideas
  • have an interest in technical detailing and materiality
  • visual presentation know-how and ability
