About Studio Lotus

Studio Lotus is a New Delhi-based multidisciplinary design practice built on the principles of conscious design, an approach that celebrates and is rooted in context, craft and collaboration. Operating as a constellation of mini-studios within a larger ecosystem, we believe in distributed leadership and an inclusive studio culture that values transparency, shared authorship, and learning across roles and disciplines.

Some of the studio’s most significant projects include an upcoming visitor centre at the historic Mehrangarh Fort; RAAS Hotels in Jodhpur and Lake Chhatrasagar; flagship store and museum-gallery for Sunita Shekhawat in Jaipur; and several pan-India hospitality commissions, including those for the Taj and Oberoi groups of hotels. Studio Lotus’s portfolio is internationally recognised – four WAF awards, inclusion in Archello’s list of the World’s Top 100 Architectural Firms of 2024, DOMUS Italia Award for Restoration and Adaptive Reuse, and the Prix Versailles Special Prize for Restaurant Interiors, among others.

What this role offers

This is not a conventional ‘senior interior designer’ role. This is a role for someone who seeks authorship within a collective, and who thrives in non-linear, emergent processes.

As an associate, you will:

  • have ownership across design, finance, delivery, and client engagement
  • shape culturally and contextually rooted interiors projects across typologies – hospitality, residential, retail, and institutional
  • operate with creative autonomy, while contributing to a larger shared vision and value system
  • grow as a practitioner and studio builder within a framework that supports entrepreneurship
  • collaborate with principals, peers, clients, consultants, contractors, craftspeople and artists to create work that resonates deeply and lasts meaningfully

Key responsibilities

Design leadership:

  • develop and translate conceptual narratives into detailed spatial expressions – aligning concept, context, and constraints into a cohesive project approach
  • champion craft, material exploration, and detailing with rigour and sensitivity

Project ownership

  • independently manage project documentation and delivery across all project stages, ensuring alignment between design intent, execution quality, and delivery outcomes
  • have a clear understanding of commercial responsibilities with respect to budgets, profitability, and timelines
  • independently plan site visits, resolve on-ground challenges, and ensure execution integrity

Client and stakeholder engagement

  • represent the studio in all key project conversations
  • collaborate effectively with clients, consultants, vendors, artisans and site teams to bring ideas to life
  • build relationships that are rooted in trust and transparency

Culture and systems-building:

  • nurture a resilient, reflective, and collaborative team
  • contribute to studio culture through knowledge sharing, review processes, and collective dialogue
  • support the evolution of studio systems, processes and standards

Who this role is for

You’re likely:

  • an interior designer (or architect with interiors experience) with eight plus years’ of hands-on project experience
  • currently leading projects – or even running your own small practice – but looking to be part of something larger than yourself
  • drawn to a design culture that is collaborative, process-led, and grounded in context
  • able to navigate ambiguity, hold complexity, and bring clarity to non-linear processes
  • invested in growing others and building strong, inclusive teams
  • curious, open and driven by purpose

Requirements:

  • bachelor’s or master’s degree in interior design, architecture, or related field
  • a portfolio that demonstrates depth of thinking, material sensitivity, and execution quality
  • experience managing multi-disciplinary teams, timelines, and deliverables
  • strong communication and interpersonal skills – able to hold space, listen, and facilitate dialogue
  • proven ability to engage with clients, contractors, and consultants with clarity and empathy
  • familiarity with tools such as AutoCAD, SketchUp, Adobe Suite, and project planning tools

Why this might be right for you:

  • you want to lead and co-create, not just manage
  • you believe in the power of collaboration, dialogue, and design as a system
  • you’re looking for stability, and a place that enables you to grow as a leader and designer
  • you care deeply about the social, material, and cultural impact of your work
