About AENARA
AENARA is a design practice operating at the intersection of architecture, advanced fabrication, and emerging technologies. Our work spans built and speculative environments – often focused on futures in space, off-Earth construction, and materially intelligent systems. We collaborate with global institutions, museums, and research partners to prototype architectural systems that challenge disciplinary boundaries and respond to planetary and extraterrestrial conditions.
Role Overview
AENARA is seeking a computational designer to support the development of parametric façade systems. The project centres on the design and optimisation of a modular assembly with expressive surface articulation – integrating procedural geometry and physical simulation. This role is well suited to a designer fluent in architectural workflows and generative logic, who is comfortable building custom tools and working iteratively within a collaborative and speculative design context.
Scope of Work
- develop parametric systems for a modular façade using tools such as Grasshopper, Kangaroo and custom scripting in Python or C#
- implement procedural patterning systems for design variation and tiling logic
- integrate physics-based constraints (form-finding, self-weight, flexibility, etc.) to inform structural performance and expression
- translate conceptual models into modular assemblies and workflows for future digital fabrication or material studies
- collaborate with AENARA’s design team through iterative critiques, model sharing, and joint development sessions
- produce clear diagrams and drawings that communicate design logic and system behaviour
Candidate Profile
- minimum 3 years of post-graduate experience in architecture, computational design, or related fields
- deep fluency in Rhino, Grasshopper, and the Grasshopper plugin ecosystem
- programming ability in Python (preferred) or C#, including integration with external libraries and toolkits within Grasshopper
- experience working with complex geometries, generative algorithms and modular systems at architectural or installation scale
- knowledge of material behaviours, digital fabrication or ceramic processes is a plus
- highly independent with excellent communication and documentation skills
- interest in experimental architecture, off-Earth construction or speculative design frameworks is welcome
Terms
- freelance contract, full-time commitment for the duration of the initial phase
- start: immediate. Potential for ongoing collaboration on future design commissions, research projects and exhibitions
