Shanade McAllister-Fisher Design is looking for a freelance middleweight interior designer to join its team in London.
Shanade McAllister-Fisher Design is seeking a talented freelance middleweight interior designer to support the studio across a range of high-end residential projects. This is an opportunity to work within a small, design-led team delivering beautifully considered interior architecture and FF&E schemes from concept through to completion.
The role
You will work across multiple projects simultaneously, contributing at key stages of the design process. The role requires a balance of strong creative thinking and technical competence, with responsibility for developing design concepts, producing detailed drawing packages and specifications, and supporting the delivery of projects on time and within budget.

You are confident working both collaboratively and independently, and comfortable taking ownership of your work. You combine creativity with rigour, communicate clearly, and take pride in delivering a refined, well-resolved end result. You enjoy contributing ideas, solving problems, and maintaining high standards throughout a project’s lifecycle.
Key requirements:
- degree qualified in interior design or interior architecture
- minimum of four years’ post-graduate experience, ideally within the luxury residential sector
- advanced proficiency in Vectorworks, Adobe Creative Suite and Microsoft Office
- experience delivering FF&E packages from concept through to installation
- sound awareness of project programmes, deadlines and budgets
- good knowledge of suppliers, finishes, furniture and materials
- excellent verbal, written and visual presentation skills
- strong eye for detail, colour and composition
- fluent written and spoken English
Responsibilities:
- contribute to initial design concepts and develop ideas in line with creative direction
- produce sketches, layouts, mood boards and polished client presentations
- deliver confident and well-considered space planning
- prepare detailed design intent drawing packages and specifications
- design bespoke furniture, joinery, lighting and upholstery pieces
- source furniture, art and finishes with creativity and originality
- attend and contribute to internal and external design meetings
- develop FF&E schedules, manage specifications and work within agreed budgets
- liaise with contractors, suppliers and consultants to ensure design intent is realised
- manage your workload effectively, setting and meeting internal deadlines
- review and coordinate information produced by third parties
- resolve design or coordination issues as they arise
- attend site visits and assist with snagging through to project completion
