Junior interior designer
at Lumsden
Lumsden is seeking a junior interior designer to join its team in London.
Lumsden is an award-winning design studio creating experiences and environments for some of the world’s best-loved brands, museums and visitor attractions. We work internationally across experiential flagship retail, hospitality and destination projects — delivering unique, one-off spaces from concept through to completion.
Our work is rooted in storytelling and the visitor experience — whether that’s bringing world-famous entertainment IPs to life, or translating collections, heritage, culture and the arts into dynamic, forward-thinking visitor experiences that connect with today’s audiences.
We’re looking for a junior interior designer to join our team in Clerkenwell. This is an opportunity for someone curious, motivated and early in their career to work as part of a dynamic and collaborative studio, supporting the design and delivery of ambitious projects for high-profile clients. You’ll contribute across key stages of the process — from early concepts and spatial planning through to presentations, technical design and on-site delivery.
You’ll gain hands-on experience, strengthen your core design skills, and develop the confidence to work across varied, fast-moving projects in a team known for a thoughtful, story-led approach and carefully crafted detail.
What you’ll be working on
Our clients include: Warner Bros. Studio Tours and Retail Worldwide, Netflix House, The British Museum, Natural History Museum of Denmark
Our projects vary in scale and timeline, from fast-paced design sprints to multi-year programmes, and typically include:
- museums and cultural destinations
- visitor attractions and themed environments
- experiential retail and flagship destinations
- restaurants and cafés
- international destinations and placemaking projects
What you will do
As a junior interior designer at Lumsden, you’ll have the opportunity to
- join our collaborative design studio and work across a wide range of live projects, from museums and cultural destinations to retail, hospitality and visitor attractions
- work closely with experienced designers and directors, contributing to the planning, development and delivery of innovative environments from early stages through to completion
- collaborate directly with our diverse client teams, gaining exposure to how major brands and institutions shape and deliver world-class visitor experiences
- be involved in the full design process, from research and creative exploration through to client presentations, design development and production
- support concept design, spatial planning, material and furniture sourcing, and the production of schematic and technical drawing packages
- attend site visits and help see projects through to delivery — gaining real experience coordinating with clients, contractors and suppliers, and seeing behind the scenes of exciting destination environments
- be part of the culture of our Clerkenwell studio near Smithfield Market, working in a creative and supportive team
Your qualifications:
- degree in interior design, interior architecture, or a related spatial design course
- a passion for experiential design, narrative environments, set/theatre design, or similar
- strong hand sketching skills
- graduate-level or up to two years’ experience (including placements/internships), ideally within experiential, hospitality, retail, exhibition, narrative or themed environments
- proficiency in AutoCAD, SketchUp, Rhino (or similar 2D/3D software)
- working knowledge of rendering tools such as Enscape, V-Ray (or similar)
- confidence using Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign)
Your additional characteristics:
- curious, proactive and collaborative – someone who enjoys sharing ideas and working as part of a team
- comfortable in a fast-paced, energetic studio environment, and excited by the pace of live projects
- strong conceptual and visual thinker, with a great eye for detail and storytelling through space
- confident communicator, both verbally and in writing (Fluent English essential; other languages a plus)
- highly organised and able to juggle multiple tasks, deadlines and project stages
- a genuine passion for culture, museums, design and visitor attractions, and how people experience spaces and connect with each other
Additional benefits

- 20 days holiday + bank holidays
- pension contribution
- healthcare
- training/CPD/mentoring
- team socials/studio events
- an additional paid day each year for charity/volunteering work
