Conceptual interior designer
at Studiomacbride
StudioMacBride is seeking a conceptual interior designer to join its team in Berlin.
About StudioMacBride
StudioMacBride is a design studio working across luxury hospitality, residential and Cultural projects, with a strong focus on narrative, materiality, culture, and place. Our work is concept-led, restrained, and long-term in its thinking, spanning interiors, conceptual visioning, and brand strategy.
We are strengthening the studio’s conceptual & research capability as part of the studio’s next phase of growth.
The role
We are looking for a conceptual interior designer to join the studio and play a central role in the development of early-stage design ideas.
This role is deliberately concept-focused and is intended to strengthen the studio’s early-stage creative thinking, and narrative capability. It is suited to a mid-weight interior designer who is confident working with a degree of autonomy and contributing meaningfully to concept development, visualisation, and early project stages.
You will work closely with the creative director to develop narratives, atmospheres, strategies, and atmospheric concepts, and then carry those ideas forward into project work.
Key responsibilities
You will be responsible for:
- developing concept decks and visual narratives for hospitality and lifestyle projects
- producing conceptual frameworks, reference imagery, and atmosphere studies
- supporting colour and material strategies at concept and schematic stages
- contributing to presentations, diagrams, and visual storytelling
- sarrying conceptual intent forward as projects progress, in collaboration with the technical team
- supporting internal creative development, research, and precedent studies.
To avoid any ambiguity, this role does not involve:
- technical detailing or construction documentation
- BIM coordination or consultant management
- site delivery or technical compliance
- final CGI or photorealistic visualisations (external 3D artists are used)
Applicants whose experience is primarily technical, BIM-led, or focused on high-end CGI production should note that this role is unlikely to be the right fit.
Required experience and skills:
- background in interior design (degree or equivalent professional experience)
- strong conceptual and visual thinking demonstrated through portfolio work
- interest in cultural research, materials, and craft
- excellent eye for composition, colour, tone, and atmosphere
- ability to communicate ideas clearly through visuals and presentations
- comfortable working independently while collaborating closely within a small studio
This is not a junior or entry-level role.
Highly desirable (not essential):
- graphic design sensibility (layout, hierarchy, typography)
- photography skills (process, atmosphere, references)
- experience contributing to narrative- or editorial-led design work
- exposure to brand strategy, concept visioning, or early-stage strategic thinking (e.g. target audiences, positioning, experiential narratives)
- the ability to create conceptual 3D models using software compatible with Vectorworks (e.g. Vectorworks 3D with Enscape, Twinmotion, or similar) to test and communicate ideas would be advantageous
What we offer:
- opportunity to work on globally recognised, award-winning projects across luxury hospitality, residential and cultural projects
- a four-day working week (32 hours) with flexible working hours
- a hybrid remote approach
- a supportive, design-led studio environment
- competitive salary dependent on experience and skill level
Portfolio requirements (applications without these will not be considered)
Your portfolio should clearly demonstrate:
- strong concept development and early-stage thinking
- mood boards, narratives, reference frameworks, and atmosphere studies
- sensitivity to colour, materiality, and composition
Your portfolio does not need to include:
- technical details or construction drawings
- BIM workflows
- joinery or detailing packages
We are much more interested in how you think and visualise ideas than how you technically resolve them.
This role is ideal for a concept-led interior designer seeking to deepen their creative contribution within a focused, high-quality studio environment.
