Hong Kong
Interior designer
at Hero Design Group
Hero Design Group is seeking an interior designer to join its team remotely or in Hong Kong.
About the role
This is not a conventional design role. It is an opportunity for an interior designer to help shape thoughtful, high-impact environments where strategy, emotion, business intelligence, and human experience come together in a meaningful way. Design thinking is a major part of our process: we begin by deeply understanding how people live, work, and feel, then move through structured phases of empathy, definition, ideation, prototyping and testing to ensure our spaces are grounded in real needs rather than assumptions.
We are looking for a design-driven professional with solid interior experience who is as comfortable engaging in user research and problem-framing as they are developing concepts, narratives, and the details that bring them to life, from space planning and materiality through to built execution. You will work across projects that demand both creative ambition and commercial clarity, partnering with a collaborative team that values curiosity, rigour, and design that starts with understanding people first. This role is ideal for someone who thrives on translating insight into atmosphere, enjoys working across disciplines and cultures, and wants to create spaces that feel distinctive, lasting, and deeply considered.
The role can be based in our Hong Kong head office or managed remotely. Occasional travel to the head office, project sites, supplier meetings, or client workshops will be required.
Key responsibilities:
- support projects from concept design through design development, documentation, specification, and delivery under the guidance of senior designers
- apply design thinking methods (empathise, define, ideate, prototype, test) to inform spatial concepts, user journeys and design decisions
- develop interior concepts, spatial layouts, mood boards, material palettes, and presentation materials
- assist in translating client briefs into well-resolved design solutions that align with brand, functional, and budget objectives
prepare drawings, renderings, schedules, and specifications for internal teams, clients, and contractors - coordinate with project managers, architects, engineers, consultants, vendors, and contractors to help ensure design intent is carried through to execution
- research and assist in selecting materials, finishes, FF&E, and lighting for quality, suitability, cost, and buildability
contribute to multiple concurrent projects while maintaining consistency, detail, and high standards - support a collaborative, high-performance design culture and proactively develop your skills across all phases of interior design
- stay current with design trends, materials, and sustainable design practices
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in interior design, interior architecture or a related discipline
- three to five years of relevant experience in interior design, ideally within high-end residential, hospitality, workplace or related sectors
- demonstrated experience working on international or cross-cultural projects is an advantage
- strong portfolio showing competence in concept development, space planning, detailing, and materiality
- solid understanding of documentation, construction detailing, specifications, and coordination through delivery
- proficiency in AutoCAD, Adobe Creative Suite, and presentation tools; Revit, SketchUp, or 3D visualisation software is an advantage
- excellent communication and presentation skills in English; Cantonese or Mandarin is a plus for regional coordination in Hong Kong and greater China
- ability to manage multiple tasks, work independently (if remote), and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- must have the legal right to work in their country of residence and be able to provide documentation if required
- familiarity with design thinking principles and a genuine interest in applying user-centred, research-led approaches to interior design
What we’re looking for:
- strong design sensibility with a good eye for proportion, materials, and spatial quality
- commercial awareness and the ability to support solutions that are both beautiful and buildable
- a proactive, organised, and collaborative approach, with the maturity to thrive in either an in-office or remote role
- curiosity about people and spaces, and comfort engaging in empathy work, problem-framing, and iterative design thinking
What sets you apart:
- experience designing bespoke furniture, joinery, fixtures, or product collections as part of interior projects
- familiarity with Asian markets, suppliers and manufacturing processes
- experience in luxury, hospitality, or premium residential work
