Gallery assistant
Mint is currently seeking a gallery assistant to join its London team.
Contemporary design gallery Mint is looking for an experienced and proactive gallery assistant and sales person with a keen eye for detail and an enthusiastic appreciation for unique, avant-garde design. You will be helping to successfully deliver two shows per year, one in spring and the second a September show for the London Design Festival. Applicants must have:
- two years experience preferred in a similar role within a high-end contemporary design environment
- passion and enthusiasm for contemporary design cultures
- a willingness and ability to engage with the astute and individual tastes of our well-informed client base
- a high level of computer literacy with technical ability in Microsoft Office and Adobe Suite, especially in the use of spreadsheets and the organisation of images.
Main duties
Sales: interacting directly with clients in the gallery to assist with their purchases and orders. Handling all emails and phone calls regarding sales inquiries.
- assisting with visual merchandising and maintaining the gallery floor
- oversee organisation and installation of two shows per year in the gallery
- liaise with show participants and external collaborators
- involved in logistics, installation, un/packing and all changes in the gallery
- compile and update show dockets and spreadsheets with images and prices
- assist with writing and editing captions and artists statements
- organise and coordinate shipping of works to/from the gallery and clients
- attending shows, locally and internationally to secure new projects
- occasionally dealing with press, coordinating press loans/hires.
- organising and maintaining Mint’s in-house photography collection
- assisting the senior interior designer with projects when required. Tasks may include client presentations and site visits
- supporting the team with any ad hoc duties required, including cleaning, tidying, and organising
- carrying out ad hoc duties requested by senior colleagues
Person specification
- a degree or an equivalent qualification in design/arts with an emphasis on project management -desired. Other relevant experience will also be considered
- committed and enthusiastic for organising exhibitions in a contemporary design gallery environment
- a fast learner with the ability to absorb knowledge of the constant incoming stream of newly sourced design
- detail orientated with a meticulous and thorough way of working
- proactive, multitasking and the ability to work independently as well as part of a team
- efficient at organisation and time management
- an excellent team worker with strong and diplomatic communication skills
- strong interpersonal skills
- confident in face-to-face dealings with important clients
- full proficiency in Microsoft Office, Adobe Suite desired
- adept at seeing projects through to completion from initial conception, to presentation of ideas, through to project administration and implementation
- fluency in English, both written and verbal, is essential. Other European languages would be an advantage
