Baca Architects is seeking a deputy director/senior associate to join its team in London.

Baca Architects have an exciting opportunity for a deputy director/senior associate architect to join their busy London office. The role is offering the chance to take a lead role within a number of medium to large scale projects. The high level of responsibility offers room to progress and develop professionally alongside the practice’s unique work within flood resilience.

The London based award-winning, design and research-led practice has a growing and varied workload all focused on pioneering designs in, on, or near water. The successful candidate will be involved in a number of project types and scales across all disciplines. Including (but not limited to) flood-resilient housing, an eco-hotel and spa, large scale residential developments and a number of masterplanning schemes. The ideal candidate will have experience of leading a project team and take on the independent management of some of these projects whilst being able to provide oversight, management and guidance for other team members.

Role responsibilities:

  • team leadership essential with an ability to manage multiple projects, staff resources and oversee junior staff members
  • active involvement in financial management and business development in support of the director
  • help securing new work which focuses on water-based and flood resilient design
  • work on projects at varying stages of the RIBA plan of work (Stages 0-7)
  • liaising with and co-ordinating consultant and external design teams
  • contribute to the design process and ensure quality during project delivery
  • track record and ability to deliver multiple projects on time and to budget
  • manage own projects and workload, including fees and client relationships
  • specifications, schedules and report writing

Core professional skills required:

  • ARB registered architect with considerable UK experience (ten plus years)
  • project leadership qualities
  • experience with project delivery with a portfolio of built work
  • experience with medium to large scale hospitality/hotel projects is an advantage
  • fluency in Vectorworks and/or AutoCAD essential
  • ArchiCAD or BIM experience preferable
  • experience with and/or understanding of BREEAM requirements and assessment methods
  • excellent understanding of UK building regulations and planning process
  • excellent client-facing skills
  • excellent verbal and written English for production of reports and communication
  • production of design and technical drawings when required
