Position summary
OBMI is seeking a highly motivated, team-oriented Building Information Modeling (BIM) director to support design projects primarily in the Miami office. The position will also support company-wide projects and lead operational standards and strategy.
This position will manage the BIM/3D coordination process for multiple projects. This position will primarily use Revit software, but ideally candidate should have expert experience with AutoCAD. The BIM director will identify and resolve issues through close interaction with project team members and collaborate on project management with the multiple design teams involved with model integration.
Help with project coordination/model mediation/sequencing through Revit and other 3D applications. Prepare model visualization using Revit as the base point and integrating with other software for rendering/animation. Communicate benefits of BIM, both for internal and external purposes. Keep current and standardized jobsite files. Provide timely and accurate distribution of information to team members. Develop and maintain positive customer experience/satisfaction. Improve personal professional growth and education; demonstrate positive team attitude and interpersonal effectiveness. Attend project meetings and presents specific aspects of engineering assignment. Participate in client design reviews.
Responsibilities include…
Software:
- manage software products including but not limited to incorporating new version releases and customization of the product
- manage the implementation of supporting software for BIM
- evaluate new BIM related software and technologies
- stay informed on best practices for use of Revit architecture and BIM
Standards:
- responsible for BIM standards development, implementation, and enforcement
- creation and maintenance of the software template files to assure standards
- provide support for plotting and electronic file submission
- automate routines in BIM to support standards and productivity
- provide quality control for completeness and adherence to company standards of all shop drawings produced
- assist in developing and enforcing BIM documentation and workflow process standards
- train and oversee the day to day activities of the Revit specialists to ensure
- BIM standards are maintained in the creation of the architectural Revit model
Management:
- create written technology evaluations and budgets for future technology adoption that aligns with the corporate goals
- chair the company’s BIM committee/interest group.
- report on the company’s current and projected state in regards to BIM implementation
- create upgrade and deployment strategies for the BIM implementation effort
- assess: evaluate the firm’s current workflow , strategies, budgets, projects, staffing, etc.
- plan: crate plan for implementation. Who are the team members, what is the project, what are the goals, etc.
- solve: execute the plan, install the software, get templates created, get training, do the pilot project, etc.
- confirm: be able to demonstrate the company’s BIM success by evaluating goals that were established in the assess phase
Support:
- provide network and software support as it relates to BIM production
- support the BIM technology needs of our satellite offices
- troubleshoot problems
- liaise with BIM specialists in other OBMI office
Training:
- internal training: provide Revit Architecture fundamental and intermediate training to staff
- conduct internal continuing education Revit Architecture training sessions
- provide technical orientation to new hires regarding BIM tools
- test new hires skills in BIM
- maintain high level of competency of software through continued use and training
- attend conferences, seminars, and workshops for BIM; bring back learning and disseminating the information to appropriate teams
Project interface:
- support project standards coordination with customers
- assist on project work – modeling and detailing
- assist project teams in BIM project set up
- crate Revit families in response to project needs
- help resolve BIM design issues
- manage and distribute coordinated digital documents to the project team
- coordinate needed hardware upgrades with IT communicate with subcontractors to receive, coordinate and update all electronic models
- linking BIM to the project construction administration phase for submittals, construction models, shop drawings and schedules
Marketing of BIM services:
- web, literature, interviews, presenting at relevant client focused conferences
- future BIM/Revit Architecture industry initiatives and developments
- identify trends and business opportunities relating to BIM evaluate and make recommendations regarding BIM software
Liaison for BIM process with:
- future planning and potential uses of BIM
- sustainable design
- planning
- 3D renderings
- cost estimating
- specs management
- integrated project delivery
- digital prototyping and digital fabrication
- modularization
Involvement with industry organizations:
- AIA Technology in Architectural Practice (TAP) Knowledge Community

Key performance metrics/scorecard
Provide companywide BIM strategic plan that will result in 5% project margin gain. Delivery within six months.
- report on the company’s current and projected state regarding BIM implementation by evaluating the firm’s current workflow, strategies, budgets, projects, staffing, etc.
- create a plan for implementation of the required changes to become world-class using BIM
- strategy to include a medium- and long-term approach to innovation ensuring OBMI is on the forefront of BIM (REVIT and any other related tools/software)
Creation and implementation of OBMI-tailored Revit standards within first 12 months across all offices
- creation and maintenance of the software template files to assure standards
- provide support for plotting and electronic file submission
- automate routines in BIM to support standards and productivity
- lead in developing and enforcing BIM documentation and workflow process standards
- create and implement a BIM QA/QC process
- chair the company’s BIM committee/interest group
Recruit BIM specialist team of A-players within 18 months:
- ensure specialist team coverage across all offices
- set-up and provide continuous REVIT training program for all design staff within OBMI
- provide technical orientation to New Hires regarding BIM tools
- test new hires skills in BIM and related 3D applications or software
Projects set up for success 90% of the time within 18 months
- assist all project teams in BIM project set up
- troubleshoot problems and help resolve BIM design issues
- liaise with BIM specialists across all OBMI offices
- support project standards coordination with consultants
- assist on project work -modeling and detailing
- create Revit families in response to project needs
- coordination with project BIM specialist to assure quality assurance of BIM standards

Qualifications and requirements:
- a college degree is required. Bachelors or masters’ degree in architecture, engineering or construction-related scientific field with a minimum of eight years of experience or equivalent
- experience with Autodesk Revit, 3D modeling, AutoCAD
- Autodesk Revit-certified professional and strong computer, technical and communication skills are essential and required
- ability to seek out and resolve issues through close interaction with other project team members
- 10 years of experience in a BIM leadership role The first point only asks for eight years of experience
- experience with a BIM execution plan and providing a detailed modeling plan for each phase of design
- experience in project coordination/model mediation
- familiarity with model visualization using Revit as the base point and integrating with other software for rendering/animation
- general understanding of various building types
- good communication and training skills (verbal and written); and strong teaching and coaching skills to bring new team members up to speed
- working knowledge of MS Office products (Word, Excel)
- must be a self-starter and possesses the drive to pursue continued education on BIM
- must possess and maintain exceptional work ethic as well as uphold company values and demand the highest standard of conduct from self and others
