Part 2 architectural assistant

Carden & Godfrey Architects is hiring a Part 2 architectural assistant to join its team in Farringdon, London.
We have a vacancy for a talented Part 2 student to join a busy general architectural practice in Clerkenwell, central London. The seven-strong office specialises in alterations, extensions and new buildings on sensitive sites, and has long-standing expertise in historic building conservation and repair.
We have a long tradition of employing and supporting Part 1 and 2 students through their work experience, and we would expect the successful applicant to demonstrate commitment to pursuing professional studies and achieving Part 3.
Responsibilities:
- to seek to understand and engage with a small number of design projects and manage time according to project priorities
- to prepare, develop and edit drawings, reports and specifications under the direction of the project architect or director in charge as required for each stage of the project
- to liaise with clients, planning officers, consultants, suppliers and contractors as required to progress each stage of the project
- to attend meetings and site visits and make written notes as appropriate
- to assist with building condition surveys
- to provide general assistance as required
Qualities and skills required:
- to be passionate about design and well-mannered architecture with a wide interest in architecture and architectural history
- to be a good team player, also self-motivated and resourceful
- to have a (developing) working knowledge of building construction and materials, both new and traditional and practical experience of developing and drawing construction details
- to be proficient in AutoCAD, MS Word and Excel
- to be capable of clear hand drawing
- to have experience of conducting and drawing up accurate measured surveys
- to be comfortable with and have some experience visiting a building site, including on scaffolding
Desirable qualities and skills:
- SketchUp, Photoshop, Revit
- researching and writing specification clauses
- to have the habit of keeping a sketchbook
- to be interested in understanding and analysing a building brief and its context
- to be familiar with parallel consultancies, eg. M&E and structural engineering, and to be capable of leading basic design coordination, as architect
- to be familiar with key planning policies and have experience of preparing planning and building control submissions, including supporting documentation
- to have some experience of liaising with contractors on site
- to be confident in discussing design requirements face to face or over the telephone with clients, planning officers, consultants, suppliers and contractors
