Gluckman Smith Architects are recruiting for talented architectural assistants, to join their growing team in the Cotswolds. We are an award-winning contemporary design practice established in 2010, with a strong belief in the power of architecture to change all our lives for the better. Our work includes residential, workspace and hospitality projects in both urban and rural locations, serving a wide variety of businesses, estates and private clients.
Projects often involve working with and responding to historic buildings and contexts. Our design process aims for an architecture which balances poetic and rational sensibilities. The practice is recognised for producing buildings where fresh thinking and a refined finish are desired in response to their context.

Architectural assistant – experience and role
You will have experience working in a UK practice and on UK projects. A knowledge of project work stages and organisation of drawings will be required. You should have excellent communication skills and ability to liaise with other design team members. Proficiency in CAD drawing, ideally in MicroStation and 3D visualisation is required and the ability to sketch by hand is desirable. A commitment both to innovative design and professional rigour will need to be demonstrated.
The role will involve working on projects through all RIBA work stages. We expect individuals to be capable of independent working and within a dynamic team. You will also be expected to report to a senior architect and the partners. We are looking for someone who will share our enjoyment and enthusiasm for our work.
Architectural assistant – essential skills:
- excellent communication and proactive mindset
- an understanding of construction methods and detailing
- an understanding of NBS specifications
- an understanding of building regulations and relevant legislation
- an enthusiastic designer
- knowledge of 3D visualisation
- ability to work as a team and collaborate with colleagues and other consultants
- an understanding of planning system and strategic policies
- an ability to work to deadlines
- driving licence
