BIM computational design specialist

Flanagan Lawrence is looking for a BIM computational design specialist to join its growing London practice.

The BIM computational design specialist role is a new and important one within the BIM team. It requires extensive liaison with architectural teams, and other support departments, to ensure that Flanagan Lawrence continues to remain the market leader in delivering intelligently designed buildings.

Job purpose summary

The role of computational design specialist is a newly created position sitting within the Flanagan Lawrence Group’s specialist BIM consultancy, FL innovations. The role provides central computational design support and content creation for the Flanagan Lawrence project teams and more bespoke scripting for FL innovations projects. The purpose of the role will be to assist in the development of practice resources, contribute knowledge transfer to new and existing staff and to manage practice resources in order to support our projects. The successful candidate will be expected to evolve the role over time as the demands of the practice grow.

Key responsibilities:

  • identify inefficient workflows and develop innovative solutions
  • support and endorse the relevant use of computer design tools
  • support existing users to develop custom definitions
  • handle ad-hoc queries regarding Flanagan Lawrence’s current and future computational tools

Maintain and Grow practice BIM content including:

  • update and adapt existing definitions for non-project specific, practice-wide use
  • maintaining, cleaning and policing existing computational design work to practice standards
  • adapting and maintaining Flanagan Lawrence’s software standards & templates
  • continuing development of software interoperability workflows beyond standard authoring platforms

Management and delivery of computational software training,  encompassing:

  • intermediate to advanced training of relevant tools
  • manage troubleshooting workshops
  • build, develop and support computational knowledge across the practice
  • coordinate with HR and practice resourcing

Job requirements:

  • advanced experience in programming/computation languages
  • understanding of the architectural process and technical requirements
  • expert knowledge of BIM, technology, software and processes
  • experience in a similar role
  • experience in delivering training (software & process)
  • contribute to a variety of workshops and meetings
  • experience with Agile Management tools

Personal attributes:

  • ability to work independently, using own initiative
  • ability to work as part of an agile managed team who drive BIM adoption and efficiency
