Part 1/2 architectural assistant

Michaelis Boyd is looking for Part 1 and 2 architectural assistants to join its London office.
We are an architectural and interior design practice working on a wide range of exciting residential and commercial projects in the US, UK and across Europe, Asia, Africa and South America. We are involved in all aspects of design, large or small, including unique architectural schemes, inspiring interiors through to custom furniture and lighting.
Our ideal candidate will have an excellent design portfolio, sound construction knowledge, and experience of completing complex architectural projects. We are looking for a person with an independent, progressive attitude who can think on their feet and design simultaneously.
Responsibilities:
- producing creative conceptual design drawings for both pitch documents and live projects (3D, 2D and hand-drawings) on a number of different project types including:

- high-end residential projects (2 million-10 million)
- mixed-use commercial projects (high-quality restaurants, bars and hotels)
- refurbishment/fit-outs/new build schemes

- producing drawings for planning applications and detailed tender packages for multiple and sometimes complex projects
- liaising directly with external consultants e.g. structural and mechanical engineers to obtain specific technical details to include within drawings
- presenting your work to directors and partners
- attending on-site meetings and managing queries as required
- you will be working with support from a director
Qualities:
- creative – demonstrable examples of creative designs in particular good quality restaurants chains and high-end residential including 3D modelling, 2D and hand-drawing
- craft – ability to produce high-quality hand drawings as well as 3D modelling and presentation
- technical – demonstrable examples of technical drawings (building scale and detail) which illustrates your understanding of UK building regulations, as well as a good understanding of contract administration
- project management – ability to work on simultaneous projects with a quick turnaround of thorough, detailed, accurate drawings
- relationship management – excellent interpersonal skills:

- proactive communication of updates/issues/problem resolution to associates, project architects and external consultants
- ability to present your drawings internally
- team player within a medium-sized practice with a ‘can-do’ who is willing and able to assist other teams for the benefit of the whole practice
- self-motivated to learn and develop

- fluent in Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, InDesign) and a CAD drawing package, preferably Vectorworks and/or SketchUp
Requirements:
- essential – Part 1 or 2 architectural degree or equivalent
- previous work experience in architecture practices
Knowledge:
Good understanding of:
- RIBA work stages and construction procurement methods
- UK building regulations and planning
Portfolio to include:
- high level of design work (including hand-drawings)
- high level of CAD technical detailing
