Project architect
at Robert Rhodes Architecture + Interiors

Robert Rhodes Architecture + Interiors seeks second in command for its micro-practice in London.

About us

Robert Rhodes Architecture + Interiors is a tiny, Clerkenwell based architecture practice, specialising in high-quality renovation, adaptation and conservation projects.  We are a design, context and relationship-focused practice offering traditional RIBA architectural services.

We pride ourselves on our thoughtful and uncomplicated approach.  Our work is grounded in our love of old buildings and our belief is that if you’re going to do something, you should do it once and do it right.

About you

We are looking for a talented and enthusiastic architect capable of running multiple projects independently, with supportive guidance and direction.  You will lead projects at various work Stages simultaneously.  You will need self-motivation, self-confidence, calm and common sense.  You will also need to be supremely organised, and be able to communicate clearly and compellingly with clients, consultants and contractors.

It is important that you are familiar with traditional and modern construction methods and materials.  It is also essential that you are able to convey ideas quickly and convincingly through hand sketches.  You will also need to be very good at AutoCAD, SketchUp, Photoshop, InDesign and Excel.

The offer

We offer the opportunity to develop your career in a unique position with considerable responsibility and autonomy.  We are looking for someone to build a team around, to be in charge – as much as you are willing and able to be – of the work the office produces.

Essential skills/experience:

  • ARB registration, with Part 3 achieved in the UK
  • demonstrable experience leading UK renovation/extension projects successfully through Stages 3-6
  • strong technical detailing skills
  • excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • excellent and open-minded design sensibilities and presentation skills
  • a respect for history and an active interest in continued learning and reflective practice
  • a calm, measured and diplomatic demeanour
  • working knowledge of the obligations of RIBA Professional Services Contracts
  • working knowledge of RIBA and JCT building contracts, and demonstrable experience in their successful administration
  • working knowledge of UK planning policy and procedure
  • working knowledge of building regulations and CDM requirements; particularly for domestic projects
  • a desire to participate in the wider profession

Please apply if you feel you have the skills and experience outlined above, and the aptitude to put it all together and make it work.

Responsibilities:

  • managing the expectations of our clients
  • producing and coordinating clear, simple, buildable, concise and correct design information
  • managing consultants and furthering profitable working relationships within the profession
  • administrating building contracts fairly while maintaining good relationships with owners and contractors
  • monitoring and achieving practice and project goals, specifically regarding quality, time and cost
  • developing junior staff and preparing them for future roles
  • leading the future development of the practice

Highly competitive salary and benefits – dependent on experience and aptitude.   The position is permanent and full time, with a target start date of 03 August 2020.  No agencies please.

Please understand we will not be able to respond to applicants unless they are shortlisted for an interview.

We are an equal opportunities employer.   Applicants not already resident in London will not be considered.  No work visas will be sponsored.

Please submit your cover letter, CV and a concise portfolio (max 10MB) by clicking the ‘apply’ button below.  Please be sure to include your notice period requirements and salary expectations.  Deadline for applications is Tuesday 30 June 2020 at 5pm.  Please don’t wait until the last minute.  We look forward to hearing from you.  Thank you.
