Human Nature is seeking an architect to join its team in Lewes, UK.
A registered architect with at least three years’ experience post-qualification needed to join a growing gang of gently but determinedly seditious people from all disciplines wanting to transform the way the built environment is designed, built, owned and managed, all in pursuit of exponential sustainability. Creatively, speedily, uncompromisingly.
Places matter. They can inspire and enable healthy and sustainable living, inclusion and justice, environmental regeneration and the circular economy or not. Too often it is not. We aim to change that – reclaiming the sustainability, place and design words – and refreshing them with purpose and meaning through a new generation of sustainable neighbourhoods, the power of doing.
You have the aesthetic/craft of the bastard child of Gunnar Asplund, Dorte Mandrup, Olafur Eliasson, Isamu Noguchi and Glen Murcutt; the boldness of Grafton, Julie Mehretu, Lendager; the urban sensibility of Jan Gehl, Jane Jacobs and Kevin Lynch; an appreciation of Swiss co-operative housing and the elegance of the Scandinavian well-being state; the unsentimental environmental heart and hard-headed passion of…well…us; a commitment to necessary complexity; a desire to help to make what we call ‘raw + craft’ buildings – elemental, long-life, loose-fit ‘raw’ buildings finished by hand.

Skills:
- registered architect with sound knowledge of and experience in sustainable urban design/masterplanning
- appetite for trans-disciplinary working
- adept at working with and helping to get the best out of our big and wide-ranging external design teams
- fast and agile, super-creative, nothing-is-too-much-trouble, problem-solver
- inexorable desire to get under the skin of projects, absorb our ‘build and design’ and ‘raw and craft’ methodologies, get fab things built cost-effectively and rapidly
- happy to turn a hand to and support graphics and communications design
Software:
- Revit experience advantageous
- Autocad essential
- fluent in Adobe Creative Suite
- excellent hand drawing skills
