About the role
The middleweight interior designer contributes to a variety of design projects across multiple sectors, usually with an emphasis on retail and mixed-use design. They ensure the highest standards of technical and creative input and are responsible for the design and management of an allocated project on a day-to-day basis with guidance from an associate director and/or senior designer.
Key responsibilities:
- contribute to design strategy, concept design and the production of detailed working drawings
- actively seek and share inspiration and reference from sources outside of the business to support creative design solutions
- source reference and carry out research to illustrate a design direction to the clients, working with architects and graphic designers in the project team
- produce concept work using hand sketches and a variety of digital and traditional media to a high standard
- assemble presentations using a variety of digital and traditional media, particularly Adobe InDesign
- attend client meetings and with the support of the associate director and contribute to client presentations
- source reference material and carry out research to ensure that materials and products are fit for purpose
- produce furniture and finishes schedules
- complete risk assessments for projects ready for checking, demonstrate knowledge of DDA requirements
- expand on existing knowledge of markets, our clients and their competitors
Skills and experience required:
- degree in interior design, architecture or related discipline
- approximately three years’ experience working on concept stage in interior design projects. Experience of retail projects is highly advantageous
- experience of large format environments would be beneficial
- creative thinker, with strong sketching skills
- ability to think through design problems and outstanding attention to detail
- advanced software skills, including both 2D and 3D software capabilities
- Adobe Creative Suite, Autocad, SketchUp or an alternative 3D package such as Rhino. Revit would be beneficial.
- proven knowledge of materials and their application. An understanding of statutory requirements
- strong communication skills with the ability to engage clients and suppliers on a regular basis
- team player with collaborative work ethic
- keen to learn and develop skills and share knowledge with more junior members of the team
