The role
As a regional studio lead, you are responsible for shaping an environment for our mixed discipline design team to do their best work. You will collaborate with global experience design leads to help build our capabilities as a world class strategic and experience design group across Arup. You bring a track record of proven design management, impactful /purpose driven work, commercial business development, and a passion for innovation across products, spaces, services using design methods and knowledge of the potential of emerging technology.
You are responsible for the successful planning, winning, and execution of all regional Studio projects. From scoping bid opportunities, defining stages, and leading teams. You’ll guide teams, clients and collaborators working through all stages of their respective projects. You will improve our methods and process of communicating strategies and concepts in all formats while ensuring financial project performance and individual team development.
Responsibilities:
- design integrated solutions with different disciplines in a highly collaborative environment across Arup
- lead the different stages of a project—this includes shaping project scope, contributing to internal and external strategy, and conducting research
- monthly financial reporting, BD pipeline reporting and future staffing plans
- understand market and industry in order to define department strategies
- ability to work with clients and partners to help reframe project assumptions and push them to focus on more strategic topics
- mentor and play an active role in the development of the digital studio and its culture
- plan and host collaborative workshops and work sessions with internal and external teams
Requirements and skills:
- demonstrated success in designing and launching integrated experiences. Your portfolio should reflect an exceptional foundation of design principles and how they translate to physical, service and/or digital mediums.
- typically, eight plus years’ experience in design with at least four years of direct report management and team operations experience
- effective time/budget management skills to balance project schedule with fast-paced deadlines
- excellent verbal/written communication and presentation skills, with the ability to successfully articulate design concepts and intent to your team and your client. Published work or presentations a plus
- masters/graduate degree in architecture, visual or interaction design, design management, product design or equivalent professional experience
- ability to think strategically and translate spacial, brand, service and product requirements into design systems and requirements
- ability to collaborate with strategists, technologists, and architects as it pertains to developing feasible solutions
Technical requirements:
- fluency with management tools such as budgeting software and CRM
- fluency in Adobe Creative Suite and other visual communication tools
- fluency with digital collaboration tools such as Miro, Mural and Microsoft Teams etc
- familiarity with rapid prototyping tools such as Rhino, UNITY or Figma
