Jason Bruges Studio is seeking a production manager to join its team in London.

Jason Bruges Studio has become internationally renowned for producing innovative installations, interventions and ground-breaking works. The practice of 27 multi-disciplinary people creates interactive spaces and surfaces that sit between the world of architecture, site specific installation art and interaction design.

Job overview

The studio is looking for a production manager to work with our design and technical team to develop artistic concepts into full realised and operational artworks. The candidate must have a high standard for detail and process to match our and the clients exceptionally high expectations.

This is an exciting opportunity to play a leading role in project managing and delivering our complex and highly technical interactive art projects and installations around the world.

The current technical team of 12 people includes computational designers, creative technologists and production assistants alongside a few junior/intern positions. You will be working closely with the Head of Production to deliver exceptional innovative and ground-breaking installations.

Key responsibilities:

  • successfully deliver projects with high quality project deliverables, on time and on budget
  • help deliver strategic planning of projects from a production perspective, how we fabricate and deliver them, appropriate procurement routes/partners and outsourcing
  • manage and deliver projects with budgets ranging from £100k – £1m
  • successfully manage multiple suppliers, partners, and clients to ensure the best outcome for both client and JBS
  • help with negotiations with suppliers and manufacturers to ensure good value, quality and timely delivery for outsourced materials and fabrication/installation work
  • confidently and positively manage multiple projects and clients
  • keep stakeholders informed of project progress at all times and manage expectations proactively
  • supporting the studio manager in the resourcing and time planning of the production team
  • support the production team throughout the design, fabrication, installation and commissioning process. This may require frequent travel
  • ensure the studio maintains an interest in emerging trends and technologies

Experience required:

  • must have at least five years’ experience of managing multiple teams to deliver several complex technical fabrication/construction projects simultaneously in a professional environment
  • must have significant experience of strategically planning fabrication methods and procurement routes for complex technical projects
  • must be a team player and be comfortable working in a highly creative environment. Must be able to manage change and take onboard feedback
  • must have a track record of delivering exceptional innovative projects on time and on budget
  • must be both project and company focused. Able to see the importance in detail and also make wider strategic decisions across all the production jobs
  • an ability to use appropriate project management/time planning software
  • experience as a design engineer who is well versed in design for manufacture is not essential as part of this role, but would be an advantage
  • an ability to bring to the business a range of existing manufacturing and production contacts would be an advantage
  • work well under pressure with an objective-focus and positive approach
  • negotiates well, listens actively, and makes compelling points
  • experience of working in design software such as Fusion 360, Rhino and Adobe Suite
  • constantly strive to improve JBS delivery practice, process, and procedures
