Design for manufacture lecture
at University College London

University College London is hiring a design for manufacture lecturer to join its faculty in London.

The Bartlett School of Architecture is a world-leading place to study, teach and research architecture. The School is a key part of UCL, a top world-ranking university, where architecture has been taught for over 175 years. With over 300 permanent staff, across two state-of-the-art London sites, the school enjoys a rich reputation for cultivating innovative ideas in architecture and is currently ranked global number two by the QS world ranking by subject for architecture and the built environment and the top architecture school by the Architects’ Journal AJ100 for the 17th consecutive year.

The posts sit within MArch Design for Manufacture, a research based post graduate programme at the Bartlett School of Architecture. It seeks to address the impact of our current climate crisis and reduction of biodiversity by creating new sustainable solutions for our built environment. The posts aim to explore new practices that promote equitable access to resources while developing material innovation; promote environmental justice; and the fostering of inclusive approaches to ecosystem thinking within the design and construction industry.

Research:

Collaborate with the director/deputy director of school

Director of Research and MArch Design for Manufacture Programme

Director to undertake research and related activities within design for manufacture (program webpage here).

Teaching:

Collaborate with the director/deputy director of school and MArch Design for Manufacture Programme directors to develop design teaching in the field of design for manufacture. This will involve working closely with an interdisciplinary team from Bmade (The Bartlett Manufacturing and Design Exchange), as well as liaising with UCL Engineering, and Bartlett School for Sustainable Construction.

We are recruiting for two open-ended posts available for an immediate start, in preparation for the 2021-22 academic year.

Key requirements

Successful candidates will possess an international and excellent interdisciplinary track record and technical knowledge in the field of design for manufacture. In addition, we are seeking demonstrable knowledge of the climate emergency as a critical lens for this area.

Experience of high-quality research in a relevant subject outlined in the job description is essential with a focus on finding solutions to the climate emergency via design for manufacture. Additionally, the successful post holder will have significant experience of teaching programme design and management of modules in higher education including – preparation of course guides, lecture and seminars, setting of assessments and development of interdisciplinary teaching material.
