Our proposal is to employ an architect at associate level with particular experience and portfolio of designing and delivering science, R&D, laboratory, specialist healthcare and clean room manufacturing facilities from concept stage to final handover in the science and industry (S&I) sector to join and take a significant leadership role in the SIT team based in London (regional base may also be possible).
The following are proposed duties:
- work with UK Architecture, the UK SIT architecture sector lead and other Arup business leaders in the S&I sector to win new work and grow our portfolio, with a focus on the life sciences sector
- deliver ‘total architecture’ (total design and integrated project delivery) approach to our S&I projects
- to lead and work on projects in both science & industry/healthcare and also other sectors to suit workload
- to engage with global S&I architecture teams to coordinate and build Arup’s skills, portfolio and thought leadership in the sector
- future looking at new technologies in the built environment and the S&I sector
- input or lead submissions where architecture is needed
- design management responsibility for SIT/health projects with a large architectural element
- the successful candidate will be responsible for enhancing our current delivery of ‘total architecture’ predominantly in the science and industry market, and will enhance our cross-discipline collaboration to refine designs by taking a holistic view of all the technical challenges and continue our drive to true ‘total architecture’
- the successful candidate would be a qualified (RIBA/ ARB or equivalent overseas registration) architect that will work closely with clients and internal Arup teams and external partners
- the candidate will join our UK Architectural team and will work on projects in the UK and globally
Job requirements:
- direct and extensive experience working in the S&I sector, in particular pharma, Life sciences, R&D, specialist healthcare and clean tech projects
- degree holder or above in architecture
- working experience in design-led environment
- experience leading design teams in response to different assignments
- strong concept design, client liaison and presentation skills
- ability to carry out project masterplans and site due diligence
- building design and delivery experience at all stages from RIBA 0/1 through to completion
- experience working with and providing leadership to international and multidisciplinary design teams
- proficiency in design software including Revit, Rhino, rendering packages including 3DSMax/Corona/Lumion etc and free-hand sketching
- excellent communication skills and team leadership
- responsible and self-motivated
- ability to travel for project related activities
