Job title: associate architect
Job primary location: Bristol/Cardiff, UK
Discipline: architecture
Job description
Arup’s architecture team emerged from Arup Associates which pioneered the idea of ‘Total Architecture’ in 1963. We are now a global community of 250 people across Arup’s five regions, with the UKIMEA team of 70 people currently based in London.
Our mission is to shape a better world through the design of buildings and places which are simple, purposeful, efficient and beautiful – we are committed to holistic sustainability through the delivery of the UN Sustainable Development Goals. Arup’s group strategy prioritises the growth of the Architecture teams across all regions in order to be able to offer more clients the huge benefits of total design.
As architects in Arup we enjoy access to a range of specialists with world-class expertise across all aspects of the built environment. This allows us to work with an agility that is difficult to replicate from a single discipline environment to offer our clients rapid responses to challenging and complex projects.
Our projects span a variety of sectors including transport, sport, science and industry, commercial buildings and social infrastructure. We often work in partnership with the global architecture team and offer our staff the opportunity to undertake short or long-term assignments to other regions.
Research is central to our culture, and Arup university and the foresight and innovation team allow us to differentiate our services and encourage individuals to follow their passions in their work. Our UKIMEA architecture team is a welcoming, collaborative community of architects who have weathered the transition to remote working, continuing to win great projects, deliver outstanding results and even pick up a number of recent awards – we were shortlisted as Practice of the Year and Employer of the Year in the AJ100 2021 Awards.
In 2022 we plan to develop an architecture team Cardiff or Bristol as part of the regional architecture group, building on the excellent collaborative relationships already in place and supporting the development of further total architecture opportunities.
As an associate you will have day to day responsibility for operations in the region, managing relationships with the local multi-disciplinary team, taking a leading role in winning and delivering projects and overseeing the growth of an architecture team as required to support the local workload, and where appropriate, collaborating with the wider regional and/or global team to deliver projects. You will report to the directors/group leader in London
Job requirements:
- architect with 15 plus years post-Part 2 experience in AJ100 practice(s)
- excellent design and delivery skills including projects of £35m+

- strong digital skills including use of Revit
- good understanding of the principles of sustainability
- reporting to London-based directors/associate directors
