Senior designer
Joseph Waller Fabrications is looking for a senior designer to join its London team.
Joseph Waller Fabrications specialises in the design, production and management of artistic projects and has produced award-winning work for internationally recognised artists, architects and institutions. Based in south-east London, the company works with a diverse team of designers, technicians, fabricators and managers to facilitate and realise creative ideas for studio works, as well as delivering large scale site-specific projects for galleries and architectural practices.
We are seeking a senior designer who will play an integral part in the smooth, efficient and effective running of a vibrant art fabrication studio.
The successful candidate will have worked within a similar role within the creative industry and will have good experience of project management, CAD and working with CNC machinery. They will also be prepared to supervise and give instruction to others and be involved in the overall running of the studio.
Responsibilities will include:
– overseeing the development and production of drawings and 3D models for all projects
– liaising with both management and workshop regarding fabrication methods for projects
– liaising with external suppliers and collaborators
– communicating with clientele
– placing orders for projects materials and components
– project timeframe and budget management
– day to day studio coordination
– support to the directors
Key skills required:
– excellent design ethos for fabrication
– ability to manage projects from CAD stage through to fabrication and post production
– excellent design skills and experience working with both Rhino and Solidworks programs
– experience of fabrication in a small to medium sized workshop
– experience working with CNC routers – Rhinocam and Artcam
– ability to supervise and oversee the work of other team members
– confidence and the ability to work in a dynamic, changing environment
– proactive attitude in driving improvements within the CAD and CNC team
– capacity to prioritise effectively and work to deadlines and budget
– excellent written and verbal skills
– attention to detail, fastidious
– IT literacy in MS Office and Adobe Creative Suite
The company works with a diverse client base and the type of work carried out is extremely varied, exciting and often challenging, so applicants need to be enthusiastic, adaptable and actively forward thinking in communicating ideas.
The role is being offered on a permanent full-time basis. Salary from £30,000 to £35,000, commensurate with experience.
