at Haringey Council
Haringey Council is hiring an urban design officer/principal to join its team in London.
The council is seeking an expert designer who can provide design advice and support to the regeneration team, ensuring all projects, covering a wide range of urban design, public realm, architecture, and housing initiatives are delivered to the highest design quality.
About Haringey
Haringey is an extremely diverse borough, and the council has set clear and ambitious objectives through its Borough Plan to make Haringey a better place to live, encourage investment and create opportunities that all can share. It makes it an exciting time to be working in Haringey with many high-profile innovative regeneration projects in Tottenham and Wood Green that are now seeing the benefit of a £1 billion plus public and private investment programme that is already transforming these areas. These projects include growth areas, estate regeneration, high streets, workspace, public realm along with a range of social and community-based projects. The council has a very strong working partnership with the GLA family.
About the role
You will be in the council’s regeneration and economic development team, working closely with the strategic urban design manager and heads of service on a broad range of projects.
The purpose of the role is to assist the council to achieve high quality design on urban design, placemaking, and architectural projects within the regeneration and economic development team. This will be done by working across all the area-based teams (as well as other council service areas) on strategic urban design and architectural projects, and assisting the delivery of a range of design led proposals.
The post will lead, manage or advise on the development and progression of masterplans, and provide services and support to the area teams through the preparation of site/design briefs, design led feasibility studies and options appraisals, review the design of development proposals, and work with partners including residents, local stakeholders and members, to deliver a range of place-making projects in Haringey. You will also work on place based specific research and developing or scoping design guidance documents.
You will be part of a small design team to enhance the ‘design culture’ within the regeneration and economic development team and the wider directorate – the position will play a key role in promoting and demonstrating the many benefits of best practice and governance in the design of the built environment and good placemaking.
You will be in a unique position to:
- provide expert design advice and support to council’s regeneration team to ensure all regeneration projects, covering a range of urban design, public realm, architecture, and housing initiatives, are developed and delivered to the highest design quality
- lead, advise and manage the design elements on council’s regeneration masterplans, prepare studies and site briefs, provide client-side review on the design development of proposals, and work closely with others to deliver a range of high-quality placemaking projects
- promote innovative high quality design outcomes in all aspects of the regeneration team’s projects that are both sustainable and inclusive, and ensure the appropriate design quality management/governance processes are in place for each project
You will be expected to operate at a level consistent with the responsibilities of this post at each progression point.
