Colbourns is hiring a rug/carpet designer to join its team in London.

We are seeking an experienced project designer to join our London design team. This is a multifaceted role requiring strong communication skills, artistic flair and a keen eye for detail and colour, the candidate will possess a positive and self motivated attitude plus a willingness to learn.

This role will report directly to the head of design.

Responsibilities:

• creating hand-tufted carpet designs for the residential, boutique and commercial markets
• supporting the sales team in design requirements for clients
• manage the design development process from concept, through to technical production and final product
• actively research industry trends and textile innovations
• daily supplier communication and quality control
• working directly with clients to interpret their briefs
• assisting with collection designs and re-colourations

Skills and attributes

While experience working with hand-tufted or hand knotted rugs is preferred, it is not essential. You must be able to demonstrate experience in:

• four plus years’ of relevant experience, in a fast paced in environment
• detailed production documentation and technical knowledge
• working with textile manufacturers
• quality control
• bespoke design with a strong understanding of scale and colour
• keen eye for detail
• a passion for interior design and textile innovation
• bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in design
• fluent in English and available to work in the UK
• proficiency in Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, AutoCAD and Apso/Texcelle
• excellent leadership and communication skills, with a strong initiative and a positive self motivated attitude
