LAYER is hiring a senior industrial designer to join its team in London.
LAYER, an experience driven design agency is seeking a senior industrial designer with five to eight years’ of industry experience to join their growing London studio.
LAYER delivers experience-driven design for both the physical and digital worlds. Driven by an international and growing creative team, LAYER is partnering with forward-thinking brands – including Bang & Olufsen, Samsung, Google, BMW, and a range of thought leading startups – to create products that will help define the way we live, work and communicate in the future, from smart VR/AR and furniture systems, to the next generation of media and communication devices.
Our experience-driven approach to projects requires a diverse range of skills. This particular role should have keen knowledge and experience of strategic design research and also be well versed in industrial design skills. The successful applicant(s) will be proactive with a positive attitude and desire to become an integral team member.
Fluency in English is a prerequisite – other languages are beneficial.

Duties and responsibilities:
- creative leader, always on the pulse of what is happening. You will enjoy sharing inspiring and thoughtful references to provide strategic direction to leadership team
- strategic thinker and able to work across a number of different sectors
- strategic direction – gathering feedback from product testing, brand immersion and interpretation, forecasting market trends, competitor benchmarking, and observation of consumer behaviours to define relevant and inspiring insights to drive projects forward
- ability to own projects, client relationships, accounts, and fiscal responsibilities, while also driving business growth
- concept generation – good sketching and communication abilities
- design visualisation – 2D (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign)
- design development – 3D (3D modelling and rendering)
- storytelling – able to construct an inspiring narrative to present to clients, outlining user experience, uniqueness and tying insights to final designs
- design for production – a technical leader in how products are made with working knowledge of production processes and materials
- willing to contribute to a culture of collaboration, share skills across teams and work well as part of a diverse team
