Gort Scott is hiring a project architect/urban designer, placemaking and engagement lead to join its team in London.
Gort Scott is looking for an architect or urban designer to fill this integral design role in the practice, working on urban-scale, masterplan, strategy and placemaking projects.
This important hybrid role is for a qualified architect or urban designer, incorporating expertise in placemaking and engagement strategy.
Overseen by an associate or director you will have responsibility for day-to-day project-running, including design decisions, client liaison, budget control, and leading and directing architects and architectural assistants. You will be able to present and communicate urban and architectural design, urban research and strategy ideas to clients, collaborators and staff at meetings and wider industry events. You will contribute to the feasibility and design of projects of an urban scale. You will carry out urban research and record your own site observations to support masterplans and area strategies. You will interpret a range of qualitative and quantitative data and liaise with socio-economic consultants to support placemaking. Use of GIS software preferable but not essential.
The successful candidate will also oversee the practice’s engagement and social value strategy, the approach (already developed by the practice) to public engagement and social value on projects, office standards and templates and preside over strategy for projects: set the goals and strategy with the project architect and review it at key project stages throughout the project. You will be required to run occasional workshops or consultation sessions.
Skills and experience:
- architecture or urban design undergraduate degree qualification essential, with eight plus years’ professional experience since undergraduate degree. Most likely, the successful candidate will have at least ten years’ in practice
- postgraduate urban design or architecture qualification preferred but not essential
- keen interest and some experience with urban design research methodologies – identifying research and data sources, analysing and summarising information, and applying conclusions
- ability to produce clear and engaging information
- keen interest and some experience of working with National, London and local planning policy
- use and knowledge of Microsoft Office and Adobe Creative Cloud
- familiarity with VectorWorks ideal but not essential
- proactive approach to working either as part of a team or on your own, capable of taking initiative
- experience in managing teams and motivating others to reach their potential
- excellent project management, planning and organisational skills
- fluency in speaking and writing English essential
