Mia Karlsson Interior Design is hiring a senior interior designer to join its team in London.
This is an excellent opportunity for a senior interior designer with a focus on interiors to join a small but very busy studio (team of seven: business owner, design director, senior interior designer, interior designer, studio director, finance and procurement manager, studio co-ordinator) in Highgate, north London. MKID specialise in high-end residential projects and are seeking a confident and passionate individual with an interior design related degree and a minimum of six years’ relevant experience with a minimum of three years’ London-based experience, and three years in a senior interior design role.
This role will suit a highly skilled, creative, self-motivated and disciplined individual who is a team player used to aspects of project management within their own projects. The senior interior designer will be expected to take the lead on projects from concept to completion. This includes being very client facing, and a regular presence on-site during construction. This role requires an in-depth knowledge of FF&E – you will need to have experience working with UK suppliers, and must be able to write specifications for bespoke pieces.

Primary responsibilities:
- act as the lead designer on projects from concept to completion
- manage a number of jobs at the same time ensuring timely delivery of designs
- ensuring a design meets the brief and is implemented correctly and within budget
- establish creative strategy, budget and schedules for projects
- research, prepare and present high-quality designs including concepts, mood boards, room layouts and material boards
- create detailed technical specifications and drawings, including floor plans, bespoke installations, kitchens, bathrooms, joinery and architectural details
- liaise directly with the client, suppliers and building contractors from the studio and on-site including, presenting and being a design representative at meetings
- work with suppliers to source materials for fittings, furniture, lighting and decorations
- manage FF&E research, sourcing, specification, procurement and supply process
- installation of FF&E and styling on site
Essential qualifications and skills:
- a degree in interior design or architecture
- advanced AutoCAD, SketchUp, InDesign, Photoshop skills
- excellent 3D modelling and rendering skills
- Microsoft Office skills
- preferably hold a valid UK driving license
- minimum of six years’ professional experience in client facing roles (three years UK based)
- experience working on residential projects in London
- comfortable working collaboratively in a small team and to learn established processes
- ability to liaise competently with clients and communicate ideas clearly
- highly skilled at reviewing shop drawings and samples
- exceptional presentation skills both visual and spoken
- ability to manage projects and procurements of FF&E
- proven experience producing detailed drawing packages, schedules and specifications
- good knowledge of construction detailing, FF&E and joinery
- excellent research and sourcing skills, can quickly locate and select items due to in-depth knowledge of products and vendors
- ability to manage time efficiently and work to tight deadlines
Role details:
- 23 days holiday plus bank holidays
- Standard working hours 9am to 6pm or 8am to 5pm
