Pencil and Brick is seeking an architect to join its team in London.
Who we are
An adventurous architecture practice, who work mostly on private residential and commercially-motivated projects, often around London. In 2019 we started our construction company that builds our design projects. We have six team members and we’re growing. Who we are looking for
A full time talented qualified architect, who can be a newly registered architect or an architect with up to five years’ of experience as an architect. We may seek to fill more than one position in the practice.
What are your architect responsibilities?
You will be required to carry out all reasonable architectural duties within the practice. There will be latitude to grow a long term career with us, accrue benefits and steer the business.
The minimum requirements of applicants:
- ARB registered
- at least in one university degree a good or above grade : e.g. distinction, merit, 1st, 2:1. Arguments in the absence of hitting this mark will be listened to
- private residential or <10 units residential development experience in RIBA Stages 2, 3, 4 and 5
- very good communication and presentation skills – in such a way that you inspire others
- ability to work on your own and as part of teams
The preferable situation:
- experience working with Vectorworks, and even better, Vectorworks 3D
- sustainable study experience, e.g. retrofit, passivhaus
- MacOS fluent
- Google Drive fluent
- have been project lead architect on a private residential project
- have experience coordinating and leading a design team (even if just a team of two)
- have a love of maths and spreadsheets
- could start work early June if offered a job around 13 May
- able to work from our office 9am – 6pm, 5 days a week, although we have a flexible working policy and a WFH policy
- mature beyond your years, and you excel in knowing yourself, you have a command over your unwanted habits and automatic behaviours
Reporting, authority and accountability
You will be required to report to the director. Communication with clients will be a part of your role. You will be responsible for junior staff, setting their KPIs and coaching them to exceed their targets.

Salary: £30k – £39k per annum
