Student landscape architect
at Situ Plan

Situ Plan is looking for a student landscape architect to join its team in Reading, UK for a 12-month placement.

The studio

Situ Plan was established in March 2018 as a specialist strategic planning, landscape design, urban design and architecture consultancy, led by managing director Nick Sweet, former Partner at Barton Wilmore LLP.

The team at Situ have a significant reputation and extensive experience in the delivery of projects in the UK, Europe, Middle East, Asia and America, and because of this reputation we have experienced significant growth since the studio was established with the team now comprising 18 full-time staff.

Our current portfolio of work is based primarily in the Middle East with several major design projects underway ranging from strategic masterplanning through to the detailed design of a major art installation and park of 17km2. We are looking to support the next generation of landscape architects and as such have created a position for a 12-month placement to come and work in our offices on these exciting projects to gain experience in industry.

The role

You will be working closely with the landscape architecture director and the other members of the landscape team to have the opportunity to contribute to the design and evolution of interesting and challenging landscape design projects, whilst also being exposed to urban design and masterplanning.

You will be included in client meetings and be given the opportunity to express your views and bring new ideas to the team.

You will put into practice skills that you have been developing using a range of different software packages alongside sketching and hand drawing at varying scales.

We will actively encourage you to push your boundaries as a landscape designer in a friendly environment:

  • take ownership and responsibility for developing your designs
  • produce supporting graphics, sketches and visualisations
  • source precedent imagery to support your design ideas
  • develop technical drawings as your design evolves
  • be capable of working autonomously and organise your own work
  • work collaboratively as part of a team
  • be willing to learn and adapt

About you:

  • you will have completed at least two years of a landscape architecture degree or be considering commencement of your masters degree
  • be a motivated self-starter
  • possess strong technical design skills (AutoCAD is essential)
  • possess excellent graphic design skills (Adobe suite and PowerPoint)
  • you will need to be a team player, supporting and being supported as necessary
  • a strong communicator with excellent written and spoken English
  • you must be eligible to work in the UK without sponsorship
  • you will need to provide a portfolio demonstrating your design skills and experience. Any application that does not include a CV and portfolio will not be considered
