The Faculty of Architecture, Building and Planning is the leading educational and research institution in the Asia-Pacific region addressing the design and realisation of inhabited environments. It actively seeks to extend the linkages between education, research and practice in the built environment, and maintains excellent and extensive relationships with members of the built environment professions, government, professional associations and the wider community.
About the roles
The Faculty of Architecture Building and Planning (ABP), incorporating the Melbourne School of Design (MSD) is currently looking for committed lecturers across a range of roles to support the future of architectural design education and research. The faculty encourages design-led creative inquiry and speculation, making and prototyping, and practice-based theorising and place-based collaboration, supported by partnerships, studios, and advanced analogue and digital fabrication facilities. We seek individuals who can support and expand upon the faculty’s mission by demonstrating a systemic, ethical, and innovative design-led approach to global challenges and local contexts. We are looking for a new generation of design teachers who can infuse the curriculum with a rich diversity of discourse, practices, methods, techniques, and pedagogical approaches and perspectives. The faculty will provide mentorship and a collaborative environment within which an exchange of ideas around curriculum and pedagogy can be explored.
These are continuing, full-time (teaching and research) positions although the committee may also consider part-time positions. We are seeking candidates with expertise in architectural design and technology; contemporary design practices and perspectives; design representation and modelling; making and fabrication. About you
The successful candidates will demonstrate a developing and impactful research profile or practice equivalence and teaching that advances the discipline. To be successful within these roles, you will be required to demonstrate excellence in learning and teaching, and in particular design pedagogy. You will have evidence of a passion for student centred activities that foster critical thinking and creative outputs, with a strong desire to build a career within the architecture and design disciplines. In addition, you will be highly motivated and evidence creative initiative in problem solving. These positions are designed for those with a clear pedagogical intent and intellectual project, and who are interested in academic careers and expanding modes of architectural practice.
You will further have:
- a PhD and industry experience in architecture
- demonstrated teaching experience and skills with a passion for undergraduate and graduate teaching
- research excellence commensurate with opportunity as demonstrated by a record of quality refereed research publications
- academic administration skills and experience and willingness to undertake a variety of administrative roles commensurate with the position and level
