Pembrooke and Ives is hiring a senior FF&E decorator to join its team in New York.

A high-end interior design firm in New York is looking for a senior FF&E decorator with at least seven years’ experience to work closely with junior designers, intermediate designers, project managers and studio directors to provide development, production support and co-ordination throughout the project delivery process as a member of the design team. A dependable, energetic individual with a can-do attitude and exceptional attention to detail, the senior FF&E decorator is responsible for leading the efforts of the decorating team to ensure the successful completion of the project. Duties and responsibilities

Administration:

  • completes and files correspondence and drawing files
  • oversees the organization of the sample library
  • creates templates as needed
  • weekly time sheet completion

Project deliverables:

  • develops innovative design concepts that are practical, aesthetic, safe and conducive to intended purposes and function, and are reflective of client goals and within project budget
  • oversees the production of client presentations
  • leads client meetings/presentations
  • reviews meeting notes and reports to project stakeholders
  • uses computer-aided design (CAD) to prepare required furniture plans, elevations, custom furniture drawings and lighting drawings
    required to convey design intent
  • sources all FF&E including furniture, window treatments, drapery, fabrics, wall covering, wall treatments, lighting, carpeting, regular painting, decorative painting, decorative finishes, decorative art and accessories
  • conducts materials research to produce fully coordinated room schemes
  • oversees the production of specification packets and room sheets for presentation to the client
  • produces project schedules with key milestones
  • oversees the delivery of FF&E items, CFAs, finish samples and other materials
  • oversees the installation of FF&E including arranging furniture, hanging window treatments and artwork
  • mentors interns, junior decorators and intermediate decorators
  • runs errands as needed
  • meets all deadlines for decorating deliverables

Financial management:

  • corresponds with vendors to obtain accurate quotes for all FF&E requirements
  • negotiates pricing with vendors
  • produces project budgets and decorating budgets and tracks expenses against them
  • oversees the production of purchase orders and client invoices to ensure timely delivery of project

Industry knowledge:

  • follows and speaks to current industry trends on space, function, decorative lighting, fabrics, furniture and equipment, etc.

People leadership:

  • acts as mentor by coaching and motivating design teams and individuals; fostering an environment of mutual respect and trust among members of the group as it grows and develops
  • supports diversity and develops continuing education opportunities (e.g. site visits, lectures, road trips) to expose design staff to influences that will stimulate design creativity and innovation
  • participates in interviews and recruiting of professional staff
  • encourages staff exploration and innovation to achieve project design excellence and continual improvement
  • participates in appropriate professional and client-oriented organizations, maintain active memberships and attend conferences and
    activities

Skills and qualifications:

  • possesses a high taste level and has knowledge of high-end market with the ability to design custom furniture and lighting
  • possesses excellent time management skills and is able to handle multiple project deadlines and make decisions in a fast-paced
    environment to take a project from design concept all the way through installation
  • highly presentable, intelligent, confident and discreet with an outgoing, upbeat and confident demeanor
  • proactive self-starter who is goal and detail-oriented with exceptional communication skills (both written and verbal)
  • proficient in the use AutoCAD, Sketch-Up, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator and Microsoft Office programs. Studio Designer a plus
  • possess sound knowledge of interior design principles/practices
  • a bachelor’s degree in interior design
  • at least seven years’ of demonstrated work experience with interior design and/or architectural firms
