Design strategist
at Populous

Jump Studios is hiring a design strategist to join its team in London.

We are looking for a design strategist with three to five years’ experience to join our experiential design team at Jump Studios. We specialise in creating ecosystems of engagement where people and brands meet.

Who we are

Jump Studios is a collective of designers, architects, and strategist focused on challenging conventions and redefining boundaries throughout the built environment.

We believe real design innovation comes from breaking down barriers between creative disciplines: our core teams of designers are supported by architects, digital and interaction designers allowing us to bring our clients’ values and purpose to life across multiple touchpoints.

In Summer 2015, Jump Studios merged with Populous, the international sports architecture and design practice which designs the places where people love to be together, like Co-op Live, the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and NFL Super Bowl.

Who we are looking for

Someone with a multi-discipline background that can inform different methods of problem solving and communication.

Our strategy team is grounded in design and communication training, and we welcome a diversity of backgrounds where consulting, brand management and research are valuable skills used to produce design thinking that can elevate our creative process.

Additionally, a background in business, technical design, and presentation skills, as well as soft skills – emotional intelligence, the ability to listen, facilitate and present – will be valued for this role.

The role will be based in Whitechapel, East London, and will be studio-based with the option of hybrid working. Some projects will require occasional international travel depending on client needs and location.

Requirements:

  • you love problem solving and are able to capture a clear and concise design strategy and thrive in making the complex simple
  • you have experience of working directly with large project teams and are comfortable collaborating with designer, architects’ clients, and stakeholders throughout the design process
  • you are confident and flexible and have experience working in interdisciplinary design teams
  • you are comfortable interfacing and guiding clients throughout the design process
  • you can facilitate research analysis and run insight workshops both internally and with external stakeholders and clients, presenting findings clearly and logically
  • you have experience at translating insight into design opportunities
  • you can articulately communicate the rationale behind your decision making and work processes
  • you have experience in guiding the design process from framing a challenge, to research and insights, to concept and implementation
  • you can communicate in a visual language, succinctly capturing thoughts and expressing them to others
  • you can easily switch from macro to micro; from understanding the wider strategic goals and business strategies, to caring about visual design
  • experience within the stadium, arena and entertainment sector would be beneficial
  • understanding of the value of sport in culture and its significance for communities and placemaking would be beneficial
