Architecture in Formation is looking for a junior architect/designer to join its team in New York.

Architecture in Formation is an award-winning architecture firm based in New York City. At AiF, we offer the opportunity to gain experience quickly while working as an integral part of a dynamic team of design professionals on a range of exciting projects across typologies.

Junior designers at AiF work closely with the design principal with the support and direction of a project manager and senior associate on projects ranging in scale from custom high-end private residential apartment, loft, or townhouse renovations and new ground-up private homes to multi-family, mid-rise residential ground-up projects. Junior designers will gain experience in every phase of project development and delivery of projects and are expected and encouraged to maturate to the role of project manager.

Responsibilities include:

• iterative study and design and detail development of projects from pre-design through schematics, approvals, bidding, contract documentation and construction administration
• support project manager with all communication during project development and delivery in-house and with clients, contractors, consultants, and vendors
• work closely with the senior staff in the development of design presentations
• develop designs and coordinate the work of design consultants with the support of the project manager and senior associate
• research products and materials and coordinate with manufacturers to develop details
• source architectural products, furnishings, fixtures, and equipment; manage vendors, owners, and contractors through the procurement process
• work with the project manager and senior associate to resolve issues encountered in the construction process
• this position can be full in-person or hybrid in-person and remote work

Requirements:

• bachelor’s or master’s degree in architecture from an accredited program
• zero – three years of experience working directly with clients, contractors, consultants and vendors
• must be currently working and/or residing in New York City
• command of written and verbal communication; fluency in written and spoken English essential
• candidates must be able to communicate with all members of the project team in one-on-one and group situations
• genuine interest in construction and materiality
• a proactive approach to working, with an ability to take initiative
• command of and proficiency in hand drawing and digital representation

At AIF we deliver projects across a number of the most current digital platforms and programs: Autodesk Revit (BIM), AutoCAD, Rhino3D, Adobe Creative Cloud, Microsoft Office.
