Modernity is looking for a full-time gallery assistant to join its team in London, UK.

Modernity is an international gallery with locations in Belgravia, London and Stockholm, Sweden. As dealers of twentieth-century Nordic design masterpieces, we organise regular exhibitions and participate in design/art fairs. We work closely with renowned interior decorators as well as institutional and private collectors.

We would like to hear from candidates interested in working in the operational and logistical running of a commercial design gallery. The ideal candidate will have proven registrerial and organisational talents as well as strong English communication skills. They will possess natural confidence and the ability to interact with gallery clients and colleagues; they will need to manage their time efficiently. This position is well suited for a driven individual who is well organised, with experience working on ambitious projects in a small team.

For our London warehouse (Wembley) and gallery (Belgravia), we are looking to hire an assistant on a full-time basis. The successful candidate will be a hugely valued member of the team and integral to the day-to-day running of the gallery. They will play a key role in organizing and coordinating shipping/delivery logistics, the secure packaging and storage of design objects and artworks and maintaining the gallery database (Artlogic). On regular occasions, the successful candidate will work in the gallery on Saturdays.

A driver’s license valid in the UK is desirable but not a requirement.

Experience with Artlogic, InDesign and Photoshop is desirable but not a requirement.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • responsibility for packaging, labelling, storage and movement of the inventory (furniture, lighting, textiles, ceramics, glass pieces and art)
  • preparation and submission of shipping and customs documents
  • obtaining offers and organising transports with external carriers (e.g. for exhibitions, art and design fairs, consignments, loans and sales) as well as transport of works between the warehouse and the gallery
  • coordination and participation in setting up and dismantling works in the gallery and at art and design fairs
  • coordination of warehouse logistics
  • ordering material and crates, ensuring proper packaging for transport and storage
  • contacting clients to assist with proper packaging and shipping of sold works
  • preparation of condition reports
  • administration and maintenance of the gallery database (Artlogic)
  • art handling (for art and design fairs, client appointments and exhibitions)
  • lighter restoration work (electrical, wood, leather)
  • occasional client-facing responsibilities in the gallery or at art and design fairs
