Job overview
As a senior/associate interior designer you will sit in the creative team and run a variety of project across a variety of sectors. Projects can be a mix of hospitality design, to work-place and commercial projects.
This is a fee earning role and you will be expected to undertake projects from inception through to completion and undertake LXA’s full set of interior design services for our clients on your own and with assistance from the team. You will be responsible to inform your line manager of your projects’ billing and invoicing.
You will work with all members of the design team and report to Head of Design and the directors of the business.
Detailed job description:
As an associate interior designer, you are expected to be able to deliver LXA’s standard scope of services for interior designers to our clients in a timely and professional manner and represent LXA in front of our clients and other members of the project team.
- ensure that a clear brief has been established with the client, that fees have been agreed and the appointment contract has been signed
- taking lead on designing the projects and specifying materials in line with the current statutory requirements and guidelines and to the client’s budgets and programme requirements
- taking lead of the internal team of designers producing the required drawings and specifications to suffice all stages. Oversee and approve all documentation issued to external members of the wider design and client team
- taking lead on the team’s liaison with external consultants throughout the project stages
- ensure full implementation of the projects design principles throughout all stages
- preparing project specific design programmes and work with the management on the fee forecast schedule and ensure programme is adhered to. Advise client and LXA management on changes
- ensure successful project handover to the client at the end of the project
- recommend and approve suppliers and sub-consultants, advise on any additional consultants required
- manage the fee forecast for your projects, keeping the client up to date, and ensuring the fee forecast is up to date with your manager. Review the profitability of your projects based on the time spent against the fee agreed monthly
- liaise with your manager to agree additional fee requests or alterations to the forecast where required to ensure projects remain commercially viable
- assist the directors, your manager and the company’s business development manager with marketing the business, promoting the business and winning work for the business. It is expected that associates should be bringing in around three new projects per year to the business through direct relationships and business development throughout the year along with repeat work from projects undertaken for existing clients
- assist and help train more junior members within the team and act as a mentor where required
Skills and experience:
- have at least ten years’ interior design and construction experience with a degree in interior design or equivalent
- have a great attention to detail and strong problem solving skills
- have experience in hospitality/education and retail design
- have a great enthusiasm for design
- a sound knowledge and proven experience of UK projects, regulations and standards
- a high level of design and technical awareness evidenced through a portfolio of project experience
- ability to change from fast-paced projects to larger projects running over a couple of years with same enthusiasm for both
- good experience in running project successfully though all stages, managing the team through the stages meeting deadlines and targets
- have experience in programming and financial management of the projects
- have experience in bespoke joinery design and production
- excellent interpersonal and communication skills with fluent verbal and written English
- have a goal-orientated approach to work
- have a great personality to fit within our great team with a smile and a sense of humour
- proficiency in AutoCAD, SketchUp and the Adobe Creative Suite
- relevant work permits and currently resident in the UK
