Lecturer/senior lecturer
at University for the Creative Arts

University for the Creative Arts (UCA) is looking for a lecturer/senior lecturer to join its faculty in Canterbury, UK.

The Canterbury School of Architecture and Design is in an exciting phase of growth and seeks to appoint a new lecturer/senior lecturer in product and 3D design to join our design team. This post is available between fractional (0.6 FTE) and full-time (1.0 FTE). Post holders will have a range of responsibilities across the programme, with primary responsibility for year leadership of the second year 3D design cluster.

We are looking for inspiring new colleagues to join our expanding community. Our school has a distinctive approach to education that originates in its art school heritage, emphasising critical and engaged models of teaching, learning and research. We foster varied cultures of thinking and making that synthesise traditional hand drawing and making techniques with advanced digital media workflows. We believe that inter-relationships between processes and media provide important opportunities for the creative design imagination to invent and to be enacted. Our pedagogic approach situates such imaginative futures in clearly articulated critical understandings of the present.

We are a consistent high performer in the Guardian league table for architecture and we return high scoring student satisfaction results. Canterbury is a historic city with three UNESCO World Heritage sites, close to the Kent Downs (Area of Natural Outstanding Beauty) and with good rail links to London.

We welcome applications from across the spectrum of our subject areas and level of experience. A short online application process will invite you to upload your CV and a supporting statement outlining your interest and area of expertise. If you have any queries about applying, please contact [email protected].

The school aims to provide a diverse and inclusive environment for all of our staff and students. As a teaching staff, we are currently over-represented by those who identify as ‘white’.  We particularly encourage applications from people of black, Asian, Chinese and mixed heritage. We are also a ‘disability confident’ employer and guarantee an interview to disabled candidates who meet the essential criteria of our person specification. We greatly look forward to the possibility of meeting you soon.

At UCA, creativity and innovation are at the heart of what we do. Our legacy of educating eager and passionate artists, makers and thinkers runs back almost 160 years, and today we’re helping shape a global future that supports and nourishes talent worldwide.

Our campuses across Surrey and Kent are vibrant communities, each specialising in different areas of the creative industries. We are also home to a thriving research hub, with academic experts and fellows leading the way in research on sustainability, design, textiles, animation, history and culture and more.

Are you ready to share your passion for creativity with the next generation of innovators? If so, we want to hear from you.
