The Open College of the Arts has an opportunity for a graphic design tutor to join its team in the UK.

The Open College of the Arts (OCA) is seeking to recruit flexible tutors to provide academic support and assessment for the students on our graphic design degree programmes.
The graphic design degree aims to support students in gaining the technical skills in graphic design and to nurture students’ creative and visual vocabulary, through an exploration of material and conceptual approaches. Students are introduced to specialisms such as typography, UX, UI, branding, packaging and cross-platform communication, and are provided with opportunities to develop their own graphic design practice through self-directed research and experimentation. The degree aims to develop autonomous learners with the intellectual, practical and conceptual skills to push the boundaries of contemporary graphic design practice, and to apply their learning to future employment, further research, collaborative practices, and/or life-long learning.
OCA is a leading provider of flexible, open creative arts courses, a thriving educational charity and part of the Open University. The Open University is a world leader in distance education and shares with OCA a common heritage of being founded by Michael Young. With the Open University, the OCA will be exploring a shared mission of open access and widening participation, providing access to high quality higher education to all through distance learning.
OCA tutors primarily support individual students by providing a variety of formative feedback and being involved in digital assessment events. There are also opportunities to run online group work or study event activities or get involved in the learning design of course units with programme leaders. The role can be fulfilled at a distance and flexibly, to fit around other commitments. There is a minimum level of tutoring expected, which can be increased depending on the availability of student numbers. Support for the role is provided through tutor team meetings and other training opportunities.
We are looking for creative practitioners, with some experience of working within higher education or who can demonstrate other forms of teaching or mentoring. Previous course development experience would be desirable. We are interested in hearing from tutors who share and can support OCA’s charitable purpose of widening access to the arts and open access values.
