Carlo Ratti Associati (CRA) is seeking a Chief Operating Officer (COO) to join the team in Turin, Italy.

As COO at CRA, you will play a pivotal role in overseeing and optimising the operational aspects of our dynamic and innovative design and innovation studio. With a team of 60 individuals, you will be responsible for ensuring the smooth functioning of day-to-day operations, driving strategic initiatives, and fostering a collaborative and innovative work environment. Passion for design and a keen interest in the intersection of technology, architecture, and research are essential qualities for the successful candidate.

Key responsibilities

Strategic leadership:

  • collaborate with Prof Carlo Ratti and key management teams to develop and implement strategic initiatives aligned with the goals of CRA
  • lead and drive key growth projects that contribute to the success of Carlo Ratti’s businesses.

Operational excellence:

  • oversee and optimise operational processes to enhance efficiency and effectiveness
  • work closely with department heads to ensure seamless coordination and execution of projects
  • manage the annual budget, monitor financial tasks and contribute to financial planning

Team leadership:

  • lead a diverse team of professionals, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation and high performance
  • work with the cabinet team to manage travel, finances and engagements efficiently

Communication and collaboration:

  • articulate and communicate the vision of Carlo Ratti to the entire organisation, promoting a shared sense of purpose and innovation
  • encourage cross-functional collaboration across different ventures, including architecture, research and technology

Qualifications:

  • preference for a cosmopolitan, globally-minded individual
  • previous experience in a leadership role, with knowledge in the fields of design being a significant advantage
  • the role is designed to groom talented individuals into efficient leaders within Prof Ratti’s business and research ecosystem

Skills:

  • strategic mindset: ability to envision and implement innovative solutions that align with the organisation’s goals
  • communication: outstanding verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to represent the organisation effectively
  • project management and organisational skills: proficient in managing multiple, concurrent projects and optimising operational processes
  • language: proficiency in English is mandatory, with proficiency in Italian and/or any other European language considered a strong plus
