University of Canterbury is seeking an architect in residence to join its team in Christchurch, New Zealand.

This is a part-time role that works 15 hours per week (0.4 FTE) and we offer a three-year fixed-term position.

Āu Mahi – what you will do
We invite expressions of interest for the prestigious position of architect in residence. This is a fixed-term part-time position, with some flexibility concerning length of tenure (maximum three years) and time in residence (maximum 100 days per annum).
The primary purpose of the architect in residence is to improve collaboration between architects and engineers and building design practice, through a programme of work that is expected to include:
- teaching selected topics/course(s) in the undergraduate civil engineering and postgraduate architectural engineering programmes
- producing articles/papers and/or creative works of relevance to building design practitioners
- contributing to interdisciplinary research programmes
- providing advice on architecture and design
Mōu – who you are
The successful applicant will be a leading architectural designer and recognised within the architectural profession. Ideally he/she will have demonstrated capability in communicating advanced design concepts and methods to building design professionals and students. Experience in design studio teaching and the ability to contribute to postgraduate teaching in one or more of the following areas will be an advantage: building systems; building envelopes; human factors in design; digital design and construction; sustainable building design; building performance monitoring and assessment; indigenous architecture.
There is some flexibility to tailor the programme of work undertaken by the architect in residence to suit the availability, interests and expertise of the successful candidate. So candidates are requested to outline a proposed programme of work as part of their application, including information on:
- potential topics(s) of articles and/or papers
- teaching and research interests
- preferred dates of residence
