Principal design architect

Whitespace Architects is hiring a principal design architect to join its team in Amsterdam, Netherlands.
Whitespace Architects (WSA) requires a principal design architect with good understanding of the end-to-end design process, commencing in the marketing phase through construction completion and possess demonstrable international experience, having worked on a variety of projects.
The principal design architect will be liable for coordinating and leading direct reports on a day-to-day basis ensuring design excellence is maintained and upheld. The role also involves creating concept designs for in hand and future projects. Representing the practice at the highest level to clients, peer organisations and business associates.
Key functions and responsibilities:
- manage and oversee the design team development in collaboration with the head of architecture
- manage the design team towards a cohesive and rational technical solution which best meets the client’s brief and conforms to the project brief and is technically, legally and financially responsible
- direct and manage project scheduling, project staffing, project work plan and project set-up in collaboration with the project team
- provide influencing ideas to enhance department productivity
- interfaces with the project managers ensuring compliancy for deliverables against the agreed programme timelines, resource allocations, controlling the financial aspects of project delivery, costs inception to date and costs to finalise the design delivery
- proactively identifies, assesses and mitigates design risks and resolves problems through objective and systematic analysis
- certify project standards and QAQC procedures are implemented and maintained for each of the technical areas required to complete the job, to achieve high standards of design and documentation
- innovate and develop new standards, policies and procedures for architectural design work as necessary to minimise costs and maximise efficiency
- interact and work with clients to achieve design intentions of brief
- identifies and advises the design leadership team about performance issues
- oversee, review and assess design team capabilities, staffing levels, new employees, recruitment and development of all team members
Qualifications, skills and experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in architecture, master’s degree holder is an advantage
- minimum 15-plus years of relevant experience
- AIA or RIBA certification would be an advantage
- licensed as a professional architect or engineer by an internationally recognised architectural or engineering association/body
