Tom Stuart-Smith Studio is hiring a financial manager to join its team in Hertfordshire, UK.
Tom Stuart-Smith Studio is a leading landscape design practice with an international reach, based in the countryside near St Albans. We are looking for a suitably qualified accountant to join our team of twenty designers and support staff. We undertake work throughout the northern hemisphere and have completed major commissions for the Royal Household, the Royal Horticultural Society and The Royal Academy of Arts. Tom and Sue Stuart-Smith have also recently established a horticultural community interest project on site and the successful candidate will be responsible for oversight of the finances of this. The role can potentially be a four day a week role. The successful candidate would be joining a tight-knit office culture which includes a daily lunch club and a weekly personal training session. Our office is a purpose-built studio set within extensive gardens, including our plant library.
Key responsibilities
Accounting:
- initiate and lead a financial focus within the company, in a newly created role
- prepare financial reports, including monthly cash flow forecasts and statements for company directors and external accountants
- ensure accuracy in UK and EU VAT accounts for filing with relevant bodies
- oversee company finances, management of studio bank accounts and reconciliation of invoices
- oversee and execute monthly project invoicing runs
- prepare year-end financial pack for external accountants
- liaison with the company’s accountants
- manage monthly payroll, pensions, NI payments and timesheet review and approval
- identify financial risks, proactively addressing challenges and opportunities for cost-savings
- stay updated on industry regulations, financial laws and standards to maintain compliance
Office management:
- maintain an overview of project fees across the studio
- monitor and process staff expenses
- manage rent, business rates payments and filing invoices for projects and the studio
- manage office insurances and utilities
Serge Hill Project CIC:
- this company has an anticipated turnover of less than £100k and 2024 will be its first operating year
- liaise with project coordinator and accountant to prepare accounts
- with project coordinator oversee CIC finances, report to directors
Tom and Sue Stuart-Smith personal:
- some involvement in personal finance matters
Requirements:
- qualified accountant (ACA/ACCA/CIMA) with at least three years’ experience in industry
- advanced proficiency in Xero software and comprehensive knowledge of VAT regulations
- exceptional organisational skills with a keen eye for detail and accuracy
- strong communication abilities and the capacity to collaborate across teams effectively
