Joseph Giles has an opportunity for a product design assistant to join its team in London.
We produce artistic projects for internationally recognised artists, architects and institutions, and are looking for an enthusiastic, sharp and ambitious senior designer to join our expanding team of designers and craftspeople. We are in an exciting stage of growth and would like you to join us on our journey.
We require a product design assistant who will work under the design manager to produce CAD files and technical drawings, while maintaining accurate data in the ERP system for both new and existing components and products.
The ideal candidate will be detail-obsessed, open to criticism, and an excellent problem solver.
Duties:
- CAD file organisation and editing using Autodesk Inventor and Autodesk Vault
- technical drawing production for components
- assembly drawing production for products
- adding and editing components and assemblies inside the ERP system
- error checking both technical drawings and CAD models/assemblies
- liaising with manufacturers and other areas of the business to maintain the CAD file and drawing database
- designing new products to add to the company’s product range
- designing and engineering bespoke products based on customers’ ideas
- assisting the design manager with the day to day running of the department
Qualifications and technical experience
Required:
- product design or engineering degree, or similar (or significant real-world experience in a related field)
- 1000+ hours of experience using Inventor or Solidworks, (not just university work)
- experience producing technical drawings for real-world manufacture
Preferred:
- experience managing large numbers of CAD files and large CAD assemblies, ideally inside data-management software
- experience or working knowledge of a range of manufacturing techniques and materials
- experience or working knowledge of practical mechanics
- experience liaising with manufacturers to improve designs
- some knowledge of door furniture, carpentry, or DIY
Skills:
- perfectionism and attention to detail in both CAD work and folder structuring
- good communication skills and willingness to ask questions
- proactive problem solving abilities
- good mental maths and spelling
Salary:
£18-£25k depending on experience.
