Type Studio is recruiting a Part 2 architectural assistant to join its team in London.
TYPE is an award-winning architectural practice based in Hackney. We are a growing office of seven people, working primarily on private residential projects across the UK, but increasingly diversifying into other sectors. The work of the practice focuses on carefully crafted buildings through which we explore our interests in low energy and natural materials, environmental performance, heritage/conservation and structural expression. Current projects include rural barn conversions, listed building refurbishments and extensions, low-energy retrofits and office spaces. Our work is underpinned by a rigorous and extensive design process and a close and collaborative relationship with clients.
The role
We are looking for an ambitious Part 2 qualified architectural assistant to join the team with previous office experience working on similar scale projects. Candidates must have a good working knowledge of the RIBA work stages and UK building regulations. The role is primarily office-based.
Responsibilities:
- supporting project leads to deliver project outputs across all RIBA work stages
- helping the project lead with the coordination of other consultants, client communications and attending client meetings
- working with autonomy to manage multiple project tasks, and self-manage to achieve set timeframes
- producing design options and design development in plans, images and 3D digital models
- preparing reports, images and presentations for meetings
- efficient and timely production of complete drawing packages at RIBA stages 2-5
- developing the skillset and knowledge towards becoming a project lead capable of independent day-to-day running of projects
- contributing to the studio culture through regular office design reviews and discussions
- helping directors with key tasks in the running of an architectural business such as publicity, marketing and administration
Key skills required
The preferred candidate should:
- demonstrate confident and refined design abilities as applied to buildings, with practised ability to compose well-resolved plans and elevations
- have excellent multi-tasking and time management skills
- be highly proficient in CAD, 3D modelling and image-making software, ideally those used by the office e.g. Autocad, Rhino, Sketchup and Enscape, Photoshop and InDesign
- be able to communicate professionally and confidently with clients, suppliers, contractors and other consultants
