Part 3 architect/designer
at Studio Hardie
Studio Hardie is seeking a qualified Part 3 architect with at least three years’ experience to join its team in Lewes, UK.
Studio Hardie is an innovative design and manufacture studio that works on high profile projects across many disciplines, we are known for invention, high-quality craftsmanship and playfulness. We are a team of expert designers and craftsmen who are used to problem-solving together and are dedicated to producing work of integrity and high quality.
We are a small vibrant and expanding team with an exciting set of projects in the pipeline. In this unique role you will be an integral part of the design process, working closely with the two lead designers and manufacturing team to deliver high-end unusual and adventurous projects. Coordinating multiple projects simultaneously, working to tight deadlines and high standards, you will be working on tiny mechanical details to large master plans and everything in between.
We are looking for a competent, all-rounder with a broad knowledge base and experience in small to medium projects.
You will be working on a range of cross-disciplinary projects in collaboration with designers and craftsmen, projects will range from furniture, sculpture, playgrounds, vehicular, interior, architecture and landscape architecture.
Studio Hardie is not an architectural practice and you will be involved in many disciplines, projects and roles that are not traditionally associated with architecture. Hands-on architecture.
Requirements:
- university degree with a Part 3 architecture qualification (or equivalent)
- at least three years’ industry experience in all RIBA stages
- proficiency in AutoCAD (or equivalent), Adobe Creative Suite and SketchUp
- knowledge and experience of building contracts, UK building regulations and planning policy and preferably some experience with listed projects
Duties/qualities/skill/knowledge:
- to work on RIBA stages from design, tender documents, concept presentations, building regulations and planning applications
- consideration of materials and costs according to set budgets
- ability to research materials and specification
- experience in preparing detailed working drawings, technical detailing, designs, plans, schemes and drawing packages
- a curious, inventive and rigorous designer
- attention to detail
- able to be responsible for managing varied and multiple own projects on own as well as part of a small team
- technically minded with excellent detailing skills
- set own work schedules and deliver to schedule
- diligent in finding and pursuing the right design solution
- knowledge of construction and strong technical capacity in building materials and assembly
- excellent communication skills (written and verbal English must be to a very high standard)
- a passion for realising high-quality design
- proven ability to deliver projects from start to finish
- ability to communicate with and problem solve with manufacture team
- preparing manufacture drawings with experience in manufacturing techniques
- initiative and a positive attitude
- proficient in visually communicating ideas

Term
Permanent position subject to initial six-month probationary period.
