Architect
at Burrell Foley Fischer
Burrell Foley Fischer Architects is hiring an architect to join its team in London.
ARB registered, at least three years’ post-qualification experience, to help lead extraordinary heritage and cultural projects.
Burrell Foley Fischer Architects (BFF) is looking for an ARB registered architect, qualified for at least three years, to help lead projects, working alongside a director or associate in our London studio.
This is a role with real responsibility: developing client relationships, coordinating the consultant team and helping take schemes from initial sketches to completion on site.
Our work includes nationally significant theatres, listed music venues, historic sports grandstands and civic landmarks; buildings people already love, and which have to keep working for generations to come.
That takes creativity, technical rigour and the confidence to lead. If that sounds like you, we’d like to meet you.
About BFF
BFF is an award-winning practice specialising in heritage, culture, performance venues and complex existing buildings. We work across the UK for theatres, music venues, museums, historic estates, civic bodies, charity sector, visitor attractions and cultural institutions.
We’re proud to have been shortlisted for the Architect of the Year Awards again this year, recognition of both the quality of our work and the team that delivers it.
The role
As an architect at BFF you’ll take real responsibility on projects, working alongside a director or associate. You will:
- help run projects across the RIBA stages, from concept and planning through technical design to construction
- support the director or associate day to day, working closely with clients, stakeholders and funders
- coordinate multidisciplinary consultant teams and contractors
- make, and stand behind, informed design and technical decisions
- manage your own workload, programme and deliverables
It’s an ideal next step for someone ready to take on more responsibility and grow towards leading projects.
What you’ll be working on
Our portfolio includes:
- listed theatres and music venues
- historic sports venues and grandstands
- National Lottery Heritage Fund projects
- conservation and adaptive reuse
- cultural and civic buildings
- new interventions within historic settings
- new housing in conservation areas, including former church sites
No two projects are the same.
About you:
- ARB registered, with at least three years’ post-qualification (post Part 3) experience
- confident taking responsibility for the delivery of architectural projects
- a clear, professional communicator with clients, stakeholders, consultants and contractors
- genuinely interested in retrofit, conservation and working with existing buildings
- a strong designer with sound technical knowledge, including UK Building Regulations and construction
- someone who enjoys detailing and takes pride in well-resolved architecture
- organised, proactive and collaborative
- experienced in Revit required; Vectorworks is desirable
Why join BFF?
You’ll work on buildings most architects only ever get to visit.
You’ll be trusted with responsibility early, working alongside an experienced director or associate, and encouraged to build strong working relationships with clients and consultant teams. Our projects are technically demanding, creatively rewarding and genuinely varied. We believe the best architecture comes from close collaboration, curiosity and attention to detail.
We offer:
- nationally significant heritage and cultural projects
- real project responsibility and direct client contact
- support and mentoring from an experienced director or associate
- flexible and hybrid working
- structured professional development
- a friendly, supportive and collaborative London studio
- a salary of £40,000 to £50,000, dependent on experience
How to apply
Please send:
- your CV
- a portfolio showing both design and technical work
- your salary expectations
- a covering letter telling us why you’d like to work at Burrell Foley Fischer, what draws you to our work and what you’re looking for from your next role
We want to understand what motivates you, not just where you’ve worked.
Immediate start preferred.
Burrell Foley Fischer is an equal opportunities employer. No agencies please. Only shortlisted candidates will be contacted.
