London, UK
Studio assistant
at Studio Wilson Copp

Studio Wilson Copp is hiring a studio assistant to join its team in London.

Studio Wilson Copp is a small, independent workshop in south-west London designing and making bespoke furniture, from first sketch to installation.

We’re looking for an organised, proactive studio assistant to work alongside Giles, our designer and maker.

Giles is dyslexic. He does his best work at the bench and the drawing board, and he needs someone who can bring order to the office side of the studio.

This role keeps the business running. You’ll be the person who makes sure enquiries are answered, invoices go out, the books are up to date and nothing gets lost.

What you’ll be doing

No two weeks are the same, but your time will mostly be spent on:

  • running the studio day to day: answering phone and email enquiries, managing Giles’s diary, arranging meetings and taking notes
  • keeping the finances organised: raising invoices, chasing payments, logging receipts and bills, and keeping Xero up to date
  • working with our accountant: gathering paperwork, keeping records tidy and helping us stay on top of deadlines
  • ordering and suppliers: helping order materials and keeping track of deliveries
  • helping with new projects: supporting plans such as bench rental and workshops as they develop

The kind of person we’re looking for

You’ll probably enjoy this role if you:

  • are naturally organised and like turning a bit of chaos into a clear system
  • write clearly and confidently, since emails and written communication are a big part of the job
  • are comfortable with numbers and bookkeeping. Experience with Xero or similar accounting software would be a real help
  • can work on your own initiative, stay calm and prioritise when things get busy
  • are patient, friendly and happy to work closely with someone who thinks differently
  • have an interest in design, furniture, craft, architecture or interiors. You don’t need to be an expert, but caring about the work helps

Don’t tick every box?

Please apply anyway. We’re a small team and we care more about attitude, reliability and willingness to learn than a perfect CV.

If you think you could bring something to the studio, we’d love to hear from you.

The details:

  • hours: 10 hours a week, usually over two days, with some flexibility on which days
  • pay: £14 per hour
  • location: in person at our workshop in Streatham, SW16
