Morris Adjmi Architects is hiring a senior interior designer or a senior interior architect to join its team in New York.

We are looking for a licensed senior interior designer/senior interior architect (SID/SIA) to lead the interior scope and team of a project, providing full support through the entire project and acting as the liaison to project manager, architects, and consultants. The SID/SIA performs schematic design work and participates in the design control of projects in the design development, construction document, and supervision phases and is responsible for budget management and cost control of the interior scope.

A SID/SIA has the technical and construction knowledge to independently lead multiple projects of all sizes and levels of complexity concurrently as well as the leadership skills to oversee a team. In some cases, the SID/SIA may act in the role of project manager in the absence of architecture scope. The SID/SIA may also be called on to participate in the recruitment process, interview potential candidates, and assist project directors with RFPs as requested.

  • be comfortable communicating design solutions for both internal design review meetings and external client presentations

  • model strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills
  • provide guidance and mentorship to the project team and studio
  • lead interiors developmental and educational activities and learning sessions

Core responsibilities

Project design and planning:

  • collaborate with interiors design director on the overall design concept and carry forward the established design direction
  • direct and lead the preparation of client design presentations and assist the team in production when needed
  • understand the MA project road map, project deliverables by phase and responsibility matrix (when applicable), as well as the project contract, scope and budget

Project administration

Team meetings and presentations:

  • coordinate agenda for client and coordination meetings with project manager; distribute in the absence of the project manager in advance to allow attendees to prepare as needed
  • lead client design presentations for interiors
  • act as primary day-to-day interiors contact for clients, consultants and the architecture team

Internal management:

  • acquire and maintain full insight into the project contract, budget and interior scope; ensure profitability
  • acknowledge, understand, and follow the project plan and schedule (including phase deadlines, filing milestones, meeting deliverables and staff roles and responsibilities); consistently meet deadlines
  • review contract deliverables and manage ‘scope creep;’ alert studio director and Project manager of additional service prior to proceeding with change
  • develop and maintain the interior’s work plan, reviewing at the beginning of each phase and updating weekly as required; supervise team members to ensure maximum efficiency
  • meet with the project team at the beginning of each week to review weekly and phase deliverables; additional team meetings scheduled as required
  • provide regular project updates to PMs and directors

Client management:

  • establish strong relationships with clients
  • be a secondary point of contact, manage expectations and ensure satisfaction
  • obtain client approval on design where required including FF&E selections; review where signoffs are required with the interiors studio director at the beginning of each phase

Project documentation:

  • oversee the project documentation for all phases including models and renderings, and ensure the project remains on schedule
  • monitor the documentation for compliance with building code and accessibility requirements
  • develop project-specific construction details
  • communicate with the MA project team and consultants to ensure technically accurate and well-coordinated documents consistent with the design intent
  • work with the specifications writer to prepare comprehensive specifications; review interior-related specifications for accuracy
  • coordinate interiors consultant items noted on the internal drawing responsibility matrix

Quality control:

  • comply with MA presentation standards and project checklists
  • schedule QA/QC reviews as per the MA project road map
  • archive project emails and maintain standard server file organization
  • review design and drawings for compliance with building code and accessibility requirements
  • maintain high level of quality control; review all drawing sets for accuracy and design intent before being issued
  • self-check own work

Construction administration:

  • participate in onsite OAC meetings as required
  • review submittals for compliance with design intent and maintain
    log
  • respond to RFI’s and maintain log
  • conduct site observations and prepare field reports
  • prepare punch lists

Qualifications

Education:

  • professional degree in architecture, interior architecture or interior design
  • SIA: architecture license required
  • other accreditations preferred but not required (NCIDQ, AIA, LEED)

Experience:

  • at least ten years’ related experience

Skills:

  • proficient in 3D modelling using software such as Revit, Rhino, AutoCAD, and SketchUp; Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign); Enscape; Procore; MS Office, Bluebeam
