London, UK
CAD technician/detail architect
at Skene Catling de la Peña
Skene Catling de la Peña is hiring a CAD technician/detail architect to join its team in London.
About the practice
Skene Catling de la Peña is an award-winning architectural practice based in London, founded in 2003 by Charlotte Skene Catling. Our work spans residential, cultural, and commercial typologies across the UK and internationally, from Grade I listed interventions and heritage-sensitive contexts to boldly innovative new builds. We are known for a rigorous, research-led approach grounded in materiality, narrative, and sustainability: every project is shaped by the tactile and expressive qualities of its materials, the stories embedded in its site and use, and a genuine commitment to environmentally responsible design, from concept through to detail. Our projects have received wide critical acclaim, including RIBA House of the Year, and featured in Wallpaper, Dezeen, and The Daily Telegraph’s list of Britain’s top architects.
The role
We are looking for a skilled and detail-driven CAD Technician to join our studio on a full-time basis from August 2026. Working closely with our architects and consultants, you will play a central role in translating design intent into precise, coordinated drawings across all stages of a project and managing construction drawing packages. You will be embedded in a small, collaborative team where technical excellence and an appreciation for craft are equally valued; where detailed design thinking informs even the early stages of a project. We value technicians who think deeply about the problems they are solving and bring an innovative, considered approach to resolving complex design and construction challenges, rather than simply executing instructions. Our current projects include a Grade 1* listed building, therefore experience of and interest in working sensitively within heritage contexts is something we seek in the role.
Key responsibilities:
- produce and manage technical drawings and construction documentation using AutoCAD and Rhino across all RIBA stages
- develop and maintain drawing sets, coordinating with project architects to ensure accuracy and consistency
- prepare presentation drawings, including plans, sections, and elevations, to a high standard
- manage and organise digital drawing files, version control, and document issue schedules
- liaise with structural and MEP consultants to integrate technical information into the architectural drawings
- assist with preparing planning and building regulations submissions
- support the team with 3D modelling where required
- uphold the practice’s drawing standards and contribute to their ongoing development
- conduct regular on-site inspections to verify construction is proceeding in accordance with the drawings and agreed standards, raising any discrepancies with the project lead
- record and track all design changes and variations throughout the construction process and accurately reflect in the drawing set
- contribute considered technical feedback that helps refine the design vision and project evolution
What we are looking for:
- minimum five years’ of experience as a CAD technician within an architectural practice, UK experience preferable with technical knowledge of current UK building regulations
- high proficiency in AutoCAD and Rhino; with working knowledge of Revit preferential
- strong understanding of UK construction standards and detailing conventions
- experience with heritage or listed buildings and modern interventions with the fabric preferable
- prior work on high-specification, bespoke projects is desirable
- meticulous attention to detail and a methodical approach to work
- ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines
- a collaborative spirit and clear communication skills
What we offer:
- a full-time position within an internationally recognised, creative practice
- involvement in a diverse portfolio of ambitious, thoughtfully crafted projects
- a studio culture that values intellectual curiosity, rigour, and craft
- competitive salary commensurate with experience
- central London studio location
